Troubleshooting a used Musket - Tightening it up!

Alright, so I popped the lock off. Our issues so far: Sprue forming on the sear where it touched the tumbler. Some metal wearing off the tumbler. Screw heads machined off (****). This appears to be because the top bridle screw touches the brass screw that fixes the barrel to the triggerguard...

Troubleshooting a used Musket - Tightening it up!

Good question. It's a Belgian Liege marked export musket. Another little thing I notice is that the bottom jaw is striking the edge of the pan.

But of an uh-oh too - it just slipped off half-cock.

Troubleshooting a used Musket - Tightening it up!

Hey friends, My first musket arrived today. The frizzen screw is DEFINITELY too short - the thing wiggles like crazy and is likely to fall out on the job. I know the length but am unsure how to measure the width or identify the thread. How do I measure this one in order to ascertain what to...

Has anyone tried Nylon or Rubber round ball?

Yes, absolutely only for paper. I may 'give it a shot' when I can get up north to a friends place where there's a lot of open space and no danger of anything ricocheting. I think if these are to work, that's really the only way to know they won't return to sender 😂

Has anyone tried Nylon or Rubber round ball?

I'm definitely not interested in 'less-lethal' which just feels like marketing. I just like 'easy and cheap to acquire'.

Has anyone tried Nylon or Rubber round ball?

Yeah this was my first thought. That said, there are environments where this isn't a risk. I would honestly hope nobody used them for anything but outdoor target shooting on a range, being that they can be cleaned up in that environment and won't really be bouncing back at you. I think the...

Has anyone tried Nylon or Rubber round ball?

Well I'd be interested in being the guinea pig as long as nobody expects it would be hazardous to the gun. Being plastic I'd be slightly concerned that they might not behave quite the same in that lead collapses and these rebound, so my only concern is that they and the gases come out the barrel...

Has anyone tried Nylon or Rubber round ball?

Good question - you can get all sorts of types, even (evil of evils) RUBBER. Imagine the bounce 😂 I am truly curious about the nylon ones though as I don't imagine they don't have so much bounce in them and it would be really interesting to see if they are viable for paper targets. The best...

Has anyone tried Nylon or Rubber round ball?

At the risk of sounding crazy, has anyone tried shooting the ballistic rubber/nylon round balls that you can get in all manner of calibers out of a smoothbore? I discovered them today and am all sorts of curious.

MUST HAVE features on a possibles bag?

Bought! Thanks for the reccomendation. Also now I recognize where all the patterns on the heart bags are coming from! This will be for a smoothbore, my first in fact. I am only planning on the basics, but I want the bag to be designed to be flexible so that I can adjust a thing or two later if...

MUST HAVE features on a possibles bag?

Wow, so much good advice - the thread has rather exceeded my expectations for sheer number and weight of responses. Certainly a good experience to have! Thank you everyone for your time and knowledge. Just picking and addressing a few points that jumped out (though I have read and liked every...
