Yes, it could be used either hand. most muzzle loaders can, but if you used it right hand, you have a patch box cover instead of a cheek piece. So it was made to be shot from the left shoulder

Many will have already seen this, but I love it, so here it is again. Made early 1700’s. Right handed lock, but has he cheekpiece on the right for a lefty shooter. And of course the patch box on the left

This one was built also in the earl 1700’s, but the barrel may be older. It’s about 1/2 twist in 32 inch barrel. My other one is about 3/4 twist in 34” barrel. I’ll see if I can check some others next time I go to the Royal Armouries collection, in Leeds England

That’s interesting. Any research that I have done, suggests a slowish twist on Germanic Jaeger rifles and as far as I’m aware, they definitely us3d patched round ball. I’ve not seen any references to conicals or anything like that

Looks to me like an Afghan build for the tourist trade. If it’s .54, it’s not an Enfield barrel.

I shoot a 45 smooth rifle and my wife a 40. Shooting at a steel fox shape, I recently put 3 in the chest at 75 yds. That is my best shooting mind you. Lol

As a patch lube, I just use Murphys neat. It’s a good lube and keeps any fouling soft, making cleaning much easier
