    New guy pistol question?

I bought a couple of those. One of them started breaking and falling apart as I used it. Didn’t try the other one or two yet. The part that holds the caps kind of crumbled.

    #11 Caps

I know that Walmart. It’s a shame caps are so difficult to find, but that’s why I started making them. I bought a role of .005 aluminum on Amazon, and it works really well. I like it better than the cans.

    Gemmer Hawkin wedge PIA

I built a left hand percussion. Lots of wood removal. It was my first kit and managed to get it done. My wedges were loose also so I did twist the wedges a bit and finally they fit.

    #11 Caps

I live in Estero and check a few Walmarts in the area once in awhile and they never have any. The guy in the sporting goods dept has never seen any either. I have had the cap making kit for a couple years and had good results with it. In fact last night I made about 50 of them. I’m going to keep...

    Ingredients required

I could probably find flints but I don’t know how to fit them on the nipples of my 1858 Remington. Any ideas?

    The Space Cowboy

Definitely not a Remington clone. You can get a cap on the nipple of the cylinder without much trouble.

Grinding the nipple openings on a Remington New Model Army cylinder

Yup, definitely the smaller diameter. I didn’t measure but judging by my well calibrated eyeball it looks to be 1/4” diameter!

I’ll have a look later. I’m pretty sure it was the smaller diameter. I think it was 1/4”. I cleaned it up with a small file afterwards.

How hard is it to make caps?

The Remington is great, but I recently acquired something I like even better! It’s a Roger’s & Spencer! Took it out to shoot yesterday and it was amazing! Easy to put caps on and very accurate. No cylinder binding at all. Unfortunately they are hard to find so I agree the Remington is the way to...

How hard is it to make caps?

Gotcha! When I started down the black powder road three years ago caps were nowhere to be found. I bought a Remington and the cap making kit with prime all and made my own. At least caps are available now, so I have some of both.

How hard is it to make caps?

My caps get destroyed when I shoot my revolver. If your referring to primers I did reload a few large pistol primers for someone to try one time and he said they worked fine.

How hard is it to make caps?

I’ve made caps several different ways. I like using duco cement mixed with acetone. I never measured how much cement to acetone, but anywhere from 6 to 1 to 10 to 1 ratio acetone/ cement should be fine. Another thing I do is after adding the acetone/ cement mixture is I add a Legends of the west...

It is a sanding drum. I did it and it worked just fine.

    Paper nitrating question

I haven’t compared them. I just nitrate because it’s easy to do. I just nitrate the day before I make any cartridges. I just dip them in the pan and hang them or lay them flat and let them dry.

    Paper nitrating question

I use the perm curling paper and I nitrate those. Just dip in the solution and lay on a sheet of foil or hang on something. No need for gloves unless you have cuts, even tiny unnoticeable ones! It will light you up like a firecracker!

Slixshot nipples, homemade caps, old Canola oil, and thou.

It’s called HP48. It is corrosive if left without cleaning. It leaves a reddish colored residue, like the color of Rustoleum spray primer, so it kind of looks like instant rust!
