    Pietta!

A gentlemen on YouTube who goes by the name of Oldranger did an accuracy test between lubed wads and lube in front of the cylinder. He came up with the same conclusion of using lubed wads dramatically effected accuracy.

My Traditions Trapper Pistol Kit Build Log

Hi Wiscoaster! I carded mine with rolled up denim while running it under hot water. It worked well for me.

Taylor vs. cimarron vs. Traditions vs. Pietta?

My Pietta 1858 sheriffs model was also dovetailed. I say was because I shortened the barrel and may a dovetail for a Hawken style sight. It was 2020 manufacture.

Pietta 1851 .44 "Navy" Chrono Results

Let me ask you. Do you compress the 777 at all? I’ve read it shouldn’t be compressed, but I want to hear real world use from folks that use it regularly. I bought 3 lbs of Swiss ffffg to use in my 31 caliber and maybe my pocket police. Kind of disappointed to see how slow your readings were...

    Sheriff to Bulldog

Thanks! I like the aged look, but what’s nice is I can drop the frame in vinegar for an hour and then sand and polish it a bit to make it look new. The cylinder release used on the ace is pretty cool. It’s another alternative that works well instead of doing what I did.

    Brand new shooter and gun

Yes as wiscoaster said proper tools are necessary. If you don’t have screwdrivers for guns get a set. Regular screwdrivers will likely ruin the rather soft screws they use on these guns. Oh yeah welcome and have fun!

I see you sold one back in April. You were fortunate enough to own two of these? Nice!

    Sheriff to Bulldog

Alright the writing on the barrel is mostly gone. I finished the patina with cold blue and water, then a day or so of browning solution and carding, then a bit more cold blue and water. Then I tossed it in some lava rock a few times just to bang it up a bit. I also took the bluing off all the...

    1851 is getting ugly

Lead in the barrel or forcing cone?

    Sheriff to Bulldog

I started the patina a bit with cold blue and water mix. Not sure if I’ll keep it like this. If I do I’ll have to remove the blue from the screws, cylinder arbor, trigger and hammer too.

    Traditions Walker

How much are they asking? You can get a new Uberti for somewhat north of 400.00.

    Wire bolt/trigger spring

I will! That one I understand without explanation! The piano wire springs “may” last longer but I can’t stand the feel. I’ll try both ideas. Thanks for everything!

    Wire bolt/trigger spring

You certainly splained it just fine! I was using the piano wire springs and while they work, it doesn’t have the solid “feel” the original springs have. It feels like I’m cocking a sponge! I’ll have to give this a try. Much obliged!

    Wire bolt/trigger spring

You wouldn’t happen to have a photo that shows where you drill these holes and what size hole you drill. I’m not quite following what your written description says.

    Sheriff to Bulldog

That’s good to know. I wanted to keep the loading lever because I like the look and I have a slixshot loading lever extension so I can hopefully still use it to load.

    Champfer?

The only thing that I personally would be concerned with would be if you have a burr on the chamber mouth and the opening with the burr is smaller in size than the chamber itself. If that was the case you could shave a ring of lead, but the ball would then be smaller than the chamber. Then you...

Just a little better among reproduction Colt 1862s?

Dixie gun works has them as well as midway. They are over 400.00 generally and then you will most likely have to do some work on it. Arbor length correction a cap rake and action shield go a long way to making them relabe, as well as slixshot nipples. Nice shooting gun when everything is...
