    NMLRA Videos?

This may be a dumb question, but does anyone know what happened to the NMLRA's YouTube channel? They haven't uploaded in 14 months (May of 2021.) They do have a link to their "Odysee" (another video website I hadn't heard of) account on their website, but it's the same stuff as their YouTube...

    Standard Grade Kibler Colonial Examples

Again, not the standard grade but here's an example of my .58 with "extra fancy" maple as highlighted by bad lighting and poor photography skills. Finished with Kibler's tannic acid and Aqua Fortis, plus my own recipe of tried and true varnish oil with my special blend of 37 herbs and spices.

No More Gun Building Videos on You Tube

There, and gunstreamer.com. Both emerged a couple of years ago after YouTube started messing with firearm related content. I have no affiliation or real insight with either platform other than watching a couple of videos, but the first thing you'll notice with a visit to either site is that...

    Proper luster of metal parts?

Alright... since everyone pretty much told me to "do whatever I want" I did what I wanted... And since the 800 grit burnished with steel wool felt right to me, I stayed with that but added a step of buffing with green Scotch Brite. I've attached the results of my polishing and patina-ing. I...

    Proper luster of metal parts?

Found a little time to work on my Kibler Colonial kit. I'm working on finishing metal parts, and I'm trying to get a feel for the proper level of polish. I've looked at as many pictures as I can scare up, but no one takes pictures up close trying to show off a polishing job, just typically...

    Kibler SMR Build

I just read the whole thread and looked at the pictures. The only thing that disappoints me is the fact that apparently even better grades of wood are offered via phone order only and that nobody told me this when I ordered my colonial a few months back! That's OK, I'll know for my next...

    Another +1 for Two Feathers

I admit, I'm a practical guy. Which means that when it comes to a patch knife, I'm more likely to be found with a cheap box cutter or similar. However, I recently came across this Two Feathers offering and thought that it would be slightly nicer than a box cutter, so I decided to pick it up...

    Burned by USPS

First of all, I'm not a lawyer, so everything I know could be completely wrong... Here's what the USPS mail manual says about the "antique firearm exemption." It generally mirrors the definition used in 18 USC § 921, which is the definition we're all familiar with, with one twist: 432...

    Burned by USPS

Umm, just my uneducated, uninformed opinion, but given what 18 USC § 1715 says, I wouldn’t poke the bear on this one... 18 U.S. Code § 1715 - Firearms as nonmailable; regulations I would also ask for the thread to be deleted (or identifying specifics removed), but again just my opinion.

    Percussion Caps and Prime All

Presented with context as an original source because I know nothing about this, I'm just OK at using a search engine... ...but if you are curious, here is some info I found. Of course, these are just forum posts so it could be that the info posted is complete BS so take it with a grain of salt...

Not too happy with Brown Bess purchase, best way to fix?

Gotta give the vendor a chance to respond in order to have a “rest of the story....” ;) Anyway, I called the vendor and I’m getting a prepaid label to return the item. Assuming everything works as it should, I’d call that a fair resolution. As far as a replacement... I found a particularly...

Not too happy with Brown Bess purchase, best way to fix?

The proof shows 2019, but I wonder if it could have played a part? Rejected pieces that were warehoused for rework all of a sudden became "good enough" due to extreme demand and inexperienced workers? Negative. I won't "out" them just yet, but I'll say that the vendor deals in muzzleloading...

Not too happy with Brown Bess purchase, best way to fix?

Hi Dave, Yes, I spent quite a bit of time reading your thread as well as the FAQs when I was doing my research and I must say it was invaluable. This information is why I acknowledged that the Pedersoli copy would never be "right" and when I inquired about building a stock for it I would be...

Not too happy with Brown Bess purchase, best way to fix?

I think everyone has about sold me on sending it back. Regardless, I am still bothered by the prospect of getting a Bess with the "correct" stock... before I make a final decision, can anyone tell me who could build a stock for me with the "correct" dimensions using my parts? Or is this just...

Not too happy with Brown Bess purchase, best way to fix?

Lots of votes for "return" and it crossed my mind, but I'm a little leery because... It would cost close to $60 to ship it back If I do an exchange, there's no guarantee the replacement will be any better. I don't know if it was handled or closely inspected by the vendor, but the box was...

Not too happy with Brown Bess purchase, best way to fix?

The Brown Bess has been a grail gun for me for a while now. I looked at the various kits out there, looked at the used market, looked at the IMA offerings, I basically looked at everything that cost less than a descent used car. I read very good reviews about the Pedersoli Bess and was...

    Kibler Colonial Set Trigger Modification

Interested in this myself. Hopefully this thread isn't too old to resurrect, found this while searching for the same thing... In the video below, they show inletting a double set trigger into a colonial kit, but the manufacturer of the trigger is not identified. This one is pretty close...
