    Target Pistol

Our annual TCGC match in 2015, shot under NMLRA rules. I elected to shoot my flintlock in the open category and pulled this target out of my ass to win the trophy. We’ve been passing that thing around for over 30 years and I’ve gotten my name on it twice now. From my previous win with a...

Need help, flash hole liner stuck!

FWIW, try removing the barrel and letting the breach soak in some hot/warm water for awhile. Tends to loosen up the fouling in the threads and makes the liner easier to remove. And yes, I‘m the guy who likes to pull the liner when cleaning the gun.

    Target Pistol

LePage flintlock, .44 (.433 ball, .010" muslin patch, spit lube, 25gr FFFg Goex) 25 yards. The pistol makes me look good. If I was going custom, I'd probably look at the GunWorks pistols in Springfield, Oregon. And yeah, I have both flint and percussion.

PRB in a Fast Twist at Short Range

Pistol shooters do it all the time with faster twists than that. 25 yard bullseye target, flintlock LePage with a 1/18" twist. Off the bench it will do even better.

    Discharge while loading

Never understood why people think wiping the bore will eliminate embers. For a plain flint breech, yeah. Any type of a drum or patent breech and you ain't wiping that section at all. Seems to me that's where any embers would most likely be . The extra time taken wiping/drying is probably doing...

    Amusing/Ridiculous Muzzleloading Misconceptions...

Might want to get a new book. Last time I checked the Brits and Americans were shooting at the French in 1760, not each other. Your story sounds like the Col. Tarleton anecdote from approximately 1780.

    Amusing/Ridiculous Muzzleloading Misconceptions...

Our BP range is also a silhoutte range with steel targets set on rails. While the targets are meant to be shot offhand (based on size and distance), most of the suppository crowd shoots off the bench using bipods or sandbags. They seem surprised that you can knock them down off hand with a...

    Amusing/Ridiculous Muzzleloading Misconceptions...

Trying to keep this short. Had a guy at the range look at my rifle and declare the tiger stripe maple stock to be fake. Stated he was a wood products expert and there was no such thing as tiger stripe maple. Proceeded to lecture me on the "burning rope around the stock" technique that he...

I have to admit...this feels like cheating...

Would this be considered cheating, what with the bench rest, range markers and sight in target

Got a $1,500 budget! What should I look at?

FWIW, been waiting on an in the white SMR for eight months now so don’t get your hopes up.

Shooting shot from rifled muzzleloaders ( with mixed results )

Given the heavy shot charge, light powder charge, small shot size and lack of a bore seal and the resulting low velocity, I would question using it as a hunting load, especially for turkey. A tin can penetration test might be in order as well.

Shooting shot from rifled muzzleloaders ( with mixed results )

FWIW, It appears the shot was measured using a percussion cap tin. Out of pure curiosity, I took a CCI tin, filled it with shot and weighed it. Came out to 3 oz.. Pretty excessive shot weight for any of the firearms being used and more in line with an 8 ga. The only saving grace was the light...

Looking for some outstanding ML 100 yard target score photos

Not exactly outstanding, but good enough for 1st place in our little annual turkey shoot two years ago. For some reason we were shooting the NMLRA 200 yd target (4" 10 ring) at 100 yds. Doc White built, Edward Marshal rifle. .58 flintlock off hand. .562 ball, drill spit patch, 100gr FFFg Goex...
