So what is the big difference between using actual BP and pellets?

Never tried 'em, but my guess is they would be problematic in a side lock. Given a patent breech, the pellet would be a long way down an empty flash channel from the cap, which is an invitation for misfires. That and what do you do if your rifle likes 80 grains of powder and doesn't shoot for...

    D-lead soap

Yes, I think it was driven by people with kids.

    D-lead soap

They've been putting the D-lead wipes and soap up at our gun club for about two years now. They also post a sign that says we should not put on make up while shooting. This is on the BP range where we handle lead balls and spit patch. Lawyers.

    squirrel rifle

I went with the .32. Hyper accurate (group shown is 5 shots at 25yds on a 1" circle.) Works just fine on squirrel and rabbit at any reasonable range. Not really all that hard to handle, though I did have to make my own rawhide ball bag for the smaller ball.

How to make your precussion touch off every shot with out fail

"Science from the past" also gave us the flat earth, bleeding to cure disease, phrenology, and a whole host of other bunk. Just because somebody did it in the past doesn't mean it's a good idea high end or not. And yeah I read the same DGW article. How many guns do they list in their catalog...

How to make your precussion touch off every shot with out fail

Funny, my percussion guns (as well as pretty much everybody else's I know) go off just fine without the extra hole. Given I live in western Oregon the extra hole would probably cause reliability to DECREASE as its just one more place for water to get in. I would argue if your gun isn't going...

    pedersoli double 20g flint

Unless I'm missing something, that's not a write up of the gun, its just more speculation based on pictures and videos, some by the same people on here. The one link posted to an actual write up was to an article I had already found...

    pedersoli double 20g flint

FWIW, one of the reviews I read claimed this original as Pedersoli's basis for the basketweave checkering. Not sure how accurate that claim was as that particular review had so many other discrepancies I tended to discount its accuracy.

    pedersoli double 20g flint

Bit the bullet back in January. Currently "awaiting inventory" from DGW. No idea when that will be.

Change to Oregon Muzzleloader Hunting Regs in 2019

Sending a PM so as not to violate Forum Rule #7.

    Need some help.

Your best bet is to research what USIMLT and MLAIC medalists are using.

    T/C Breaking Flints

Might also be frizzen rebounding back onto the flint and breaking it. A longer piece of leather that extends over the top of the flint and protects it will give you an indication if that's the problem.

    Dumb question flintlock squirrles

I've fired mine upside down on more than one occasion, mostly to prove to people that it can be done. It has never failed to fire upside down.

Change to Oregon Muzzleloader Hunting Regs in 2019

Link to the 2019 regs: http://www.eregulations.com/oregon/19orhd/ As I posted above, the only change to the muzzleloader regs is what I highlighted. Open ignition is still required. There was a year long input period on all the proposed regulation changes (there's a number of them, especially...

Change to Oregon Muzzleloader Hunting Regs in 2019

ODFW made a change to the muzzleloader regs for 2019. It removes the bullet length and jacketed bullet restrictions from the regs. Only thing prohibited now are sabots or any thing with plastic on it. Change is in bold/italics. If you have a fast twist rifle like a Gibbs the change makes it...

    Trail cleaning frequency?

Spit patch. No cleaning. Won a few rifle trail walks/squirrel trails and pistol trails with 100 + shooters so I must be doing something right.

    range/cleaning rod for 32 caliber

Neither have I. It just looks stupid, especially when someone is outfitted to the hilt with all the HC mountain man clothes and accoutrements, but he's dragging around a modern loading rod. Good piece of hickory works just fine.

    range/cleaning rod for 32 caliber

I've got a 42" barrel on mine. Use the wood ramrod to load and a delrin to clean. I refuse to drag a second ramrod around on trail walks so the wood rod will have to do. .32 loads pretty easily even with a very tight ball/patch combo (.318 ball and drill patch in mine). Haven't had any ramrod...
