    American Percusion Fowler

Many New England fowlers were built from a mix of either new or recycled parts from various countries. Some examples of New England guns with similar locks:

Did mountain men use anything like a binocular?

As the telescope was invented in 1608, I highly doubt it was not used in wartime until 1758. Ah! Realized that's "in the colonies." https://www.cabinet.ox.ac.uk/invention-spyglass-1608

    What kind of telescope?

    Pyrodex or T7

When I lived in NY, I bought 4 lbs of powder from Graf's, cost including shipping and hazmat was less than 3 lbs of T7 locally. NY has tried to outlaw mail-order of cartridge ammo, but last I knew it was a toothless law with no means of implimenting or enforcing. Has that changed in the last 4...

    American Percusion Fowler

The piece under the barrel is the rib. Age? I'd guess 1750-1760, maybe a little later. Metal rammers were pretty much a military thing, a wood rod with a larger tip would be appropriate.

    Pyrodex or T7

I have found T7 to be less noxious.

    Load filler?

    Sam Colt didn't use fillers.
  9. Tumbledown

    American Percusion Fowler

Definately looks like a New England gun, a bit of French influence in the drop of the maple stock, with an English style buttplate and trigger guard. Made into a half stock at some point. Nice find! A good intro to American hunting guns can be found HERE.

USPS Shipping muzzleloader rifle 2025 edition

I recently mailed a musket. The PO didn't ask, I didn't tell. And she needs to read her own regulations.

USPS Shipping muzzleloader rifle 2025 edition

As I said, "legally able to receive."
  17. Tumbledown

    Black Powder Storage Box

Absolute overkill. A wood box built from 1" thick boards would have been more than sufficient. If/when it burns through, the plastic containers melt and the powder would just go up in a big WHOOSH.

USPS Shipping muzzleloader rifle 2025 edition

There is no problem with shipping long guns via USPS, either "antique" or modern. I've done both. If a person is legally able to receive it, you can send it directly to them. The USPS urges there be nothing indicating contents and the recipient sign for it. If it is concealable, REGARDLESS of...
