The GOEX Plant is shutting down

You hear about blackpowder turning up in the strangest places in the military. I think everyone is aware of its use as a booster charge. It's also apparently used as a primer cartridge for a lot of artilleries. I'm even seeing that blackpowder is used for the ejection seats for jets.

The GOEX Plant is shutting down

This year has already banned the import of a a lot of ammunition and firearms. All it would take is 30 seconds and a pen to never see overseas black powder ever again. My fingers are crossed Goex is purchased by someone good.

The GOEX Plant is shutting down

And here I was having a great day, it's my birthday. Dang it Hodgdon, first you took a swing at cast bullets by getting rid of SR4759, now you go for the kill shot with Goex. I always said, I don't want to put in the effort of making powder when a fantastic American made Goex is available...

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

That much powder and shot is definitely not needed for dove, but I'm too lazy to figure out another dipper. Lead shot and powder is cheap enough, and it isn't tearing up birds. Also remember I'm shooting Goex OE Fg. At 105gr, I'm running around 1000 fps, and it's a nice smooth shooting load...

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

I took the SXS out for duck opener, which was unreal. I messed up slightly, but it sure wasn't for lack of ducks. I ended up with a limit of all greenwing teal. I shot one goose, but it somehow pulled off a death dive, never to be seen again. There were some mallards, which did not commit, and...

I finally started my golden age Lancaster build.

Basically it came down to this. I could spend weeks lightly shaving away fibers at a time until the barrel and tang fit perfectly. Or I could do the best I could for a day, end up hogging out more than needed, bed it, get a better fit, stronger, and less prone to weather warpage. #1 is the...

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

I got to try out the bag over the weekend. This setup is sweet to use in the field. 1 5/8 oz of shot is WAY better than 1 ounce. The patterns both tightened % wise, and the higher pellet count made for lethal patterns. I shot two geese, one at about 35 yards, and the other at 40 yards. The 40...

    For Feltwad and the Brits!

It is very odd, and always has been. If anything the shot sizes are better now. Personally I'd like to see a revamp of the terms. I'd like to simply call them by their diameter. Instead of #5 shot, I'd like to call it 120 (.120" diameter), or 3mm for the rest of the world. #6 would become 110...

I finally started my golden age Lancaster build.

I'm still in the same spot. Stock and tang is bedded. It's ready for the triggers when I get to it. I baited for bear all of August, then shot one a couple weeks back. I'm goose hunting this weekend, waterfowl hunting for the next month, deer the first week of November in MN, then another week...

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

Ok, that tungsten matrix is shot I've never handled.

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

You know, now that I think about it, I think I had my terms mixed up. The stuff I was thinking of was Federal's Tungsten-Iron. Fantastic stuff, but hard as woodpecker lips. I may have even been off on the years. I swear I remember buying that stuff in the old classic grey and blue striped boxes...

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

Correction, I WAS on Refuge forum for about 2 months. I don't plan on ever posting there again. What an incredible cesspool of elitist and insane people. It breaks my heart to think that that is what has become of waterfowl hunting. Every forum has that one weirdo. Refuge forum is 50%...

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

I did not know there was a hunting section. Tungsten Matrix. That's a name I have not heard in a long time. I recall that being the big thing in the mid to late 2000's with Federal ammo. For whatever reason it died off in popularity, and was eventually replaced with a plethora of the shots out...

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

For giggles I used my new shot measure, which drops quite consistently 710 gr (1 5/8oz) of B bismuth, and tried it with #4 bismuth. Both are the exact same alloy, measured by the exact same measure. The #4 drops at 785gr, just over 1 3/4 oz.

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

I hope it's nothing too serious, and I hope you recover soon. If you were closer, I'd carry your O2 tank for you. If you can get someone to sneak some leather craft in there, you could pass time making shot bags or snakes.

Is everyone else ready for hunting season?

I am finally. This year I will be hunting ducks and geese primarily with my new to me, original SXS 10 gauge, built in the 1850's. I'm sure I've posted pictures of the shotgun, but I'll do so again. Over the years I've tried a number of different setups for carrying supplies. I think I've really...

    What's in your powder horn

Why not shoot your 40 for javelina?

    Large caliber

I'd also like to point out that I got my name not from shooting, but from playing with fireworks. Megasupermagnum was a bundle of m90's Peter made in the show Family Guy when he blew his fingers off.

    209 Primers

This is a joke right? You aren't aware of anything ongoing for the past 1 1/2 years that could have disrupted primer supplies? Best you can do right now is go on Gunbroker and pay the extortion fees.

    What's in your powder horn

Maybe stick some shot in there, shake it up, and see if it will break the candy up enough to pour it out.
