    Full stock Hawken

You used the early style trigger guard on your full stock Hawken. Totally appropriate for the rifle. Nice looking rifle.

    Repair or replace

The picture in my signature is a repair done to a maple stock that was broken at the wrist. The repair with epoxy and a small sheet of brass was done more than 30 years ago. The repair is still holding. I have hunted deer and shot many, many paper targets since the repair.

Can anyone tell me anything about this rifle?

I have the percussion version of that rifle. A friend of my brother bought the kit in the late 70's. He lost interest in putting it together and gave it to me in the 90's. Surprisingly accurate for a cheap rifle made in Spain.

    Whole lotta shootin goin on!!

You have to be a member of an N-SSA team to shoot at the National and regional events. However, you can visit Fort Shannondoah and watch the events.

    Whole lotta shootin goin on!!

Over 600 shooters on the firing line. Over 600 rifles firing continually for 5 minutes. Echoes of shots bouncing back at you from the berm. Teammates shouting encouragement to each other, Spectators cheering teams on. Quite a spectacle to see and hear.

    Permadex Anti-Sieze

For my last rifle build, I bought a Colerain barrel from ToW. I had the shorten the barrel and install the breech plug. ToW gunsmith used anti seize compound on the breech plug when they mated it to the barrel.

    Permadex Anti-Sieze

I use Permatex anti-seize on all of my black powder firearms after cleaning. Never had a nipple get stuck.

    toe plate screws

If I remember correctly, #3 size screws are needed. Toe plate is thin and not under any stress. Countersink if needed.

    Unknown (to me) parts

The spring and rod in picture 2 looks like it is a mainspring from a T/C lock. Right below the spring is a firing pin and extractor from a modern rifle.

What to do with pan primer?

I load the barrel from the horn. I prime with the same powder, from the horn. No priming horn. One less thing to carry.

    3F in a .54?

I use 44 grs FFFg in my .58 Enfield with good results on breakable targets at 50 and 100 yards. This pushes a 500 gr minie. 60 grs FFg was the standard powder load during the Civil war, with devastating results.

    Roundballs verses Conicals..??

This is not directly related to the thread, but, how do you stop a roundball from keyholing? JK

I just bought some French flints from Log Cabin Shop during my last visit.

Where to get .69 Cal round ball?

Since I have a whole bunch of ingots that I made up from lead sheathing from my work, I cast all of my own round balls and minies. One of my winter projects. I cast enough to last through the summer shooting season.

    Hello from NJ

Welcome from the western side of NJ. I'm closer to the Delaware river than I am to the ocean.

    Black powder in New Jersey?

The last two times that I bought FFFg, I was on road trips. One stop was Back Creek in Virginia and another was a stop at NMLRA in Friendship, Indiana. Bought 5 lbs at $18/lb.

Cleaning that little space at the bottom of the barrel

After shooting, flush the barrel with water. Use either a plastic tube over the nipple with the end in a bucket of water or buy a dedicated nipple/tube system to flush the barrel. That should remove any fouling left in the chamber. Dry with clean patches.

Looking for a long range rod.

I picked up 44-inch carbon fibre cleaning rod from Brownells, threaded for a 8x32 cleaning jag. That was the longest rod they had. Or get a custom-made brass rod. Do you have a machine shop close to you? Maybe one of the forum members has a machine shop?
