    First traditional rifle..

Thanks for the advise/info guys but in fact I was just as surprised as you that there is no hooked breach. As per included takedown instructions, one has to remove a tang screw and then push out the wedge pin, which I already did once. The Cabelas website does say it has a hooked breach though...

    First traditional rifle..

Well I finally received my first traditional muzzleloader yesterday. Its a Cabelas pedersoli hawken 54 cal. It seems to be well put together as far as fit and finish and I specially like the fact that pedersoli chose to put very few lettering on the barrel, unlike I've seen on other Hawkens...

    Cabelas Traditional Hawken

Sorry if it's old news, but I just saw that the Cabelas traditional hawker is now being made by Pedersoli instead of Investarms and seems reasonably priced, at least for a Pedersoli. Does anyone have any experience with it yet?

    First trad mz.....

Thanks to all for your insightful comments and opinions. I think now I'm really leaning toward ordering a GPR from Midsouth and like someone said, the savings over the T/C will buy me plenty of bullets and powder....

    First trad mz.....

No, T/C no longer offers their hawken in .54 thats why I said that the GPR has that edge on T/C. My concern is ordering a GPR and getting a fixer-upper like so many others here, and then having to contend with returning it. I must say that I do like the GPR's more understated look better...

    First trad mz.....

I'd like to order my first trad mz but I can't decide between a GPR or a T/C hawken. I want to buy new and preferably a .54 cal. so this would seem to give the GPR the edge but after reading others experiences it would seem that ordering and getting a GPR without any quality issues is more of a...

    Are T/C Hawkens stronger?....

Thanks for the input everyone. Its just that I read on another post that the Investarms manuals warn against exceeding 70 or 80 grains maximum and I thought that was a rather low limit. In any case, there is no doubt that many of you have had the Investarms-made rifles for many years without any...

    Are T/C Hawkens stronger?....

I think I read somewhere that the T/C Hawkens were tested (magnafluxed) so they could safely handle higher pressures than other Hawkens, like those made by Investarms. Should this be an issue of concern for someone considering purchasing a Lyman/Cabelas hawken or are these rifles more than...

Is T/C Hawken worth the premium?

Thanks a bunch, guys. I'll let you all know what I finally get as soon I figure how to get another rifle past the Mrs...Hopefully very soon.

Is T/C Hawken worth the premium?

Thanks for your reply, Whiskers. They are actually about $300 more than the Trade Rifle and about $200 more than the GPR. In any case, I usually don't have a problem paying for better quality, but it's just the big difference in price that intrigues me, specially since I know that Lyman also...

Is T/C Hawken worth the premium?

Hi everyone, although I've done my share of inline shooting/hunting, lately I am becoming increasingly interested in traditional and plan to purshase my first trad rifle very soon. My question is simple: is the T/C Hawken worth the extra $300 or so difference in price over the Lyman Trade Rifle...
