    Nailed buttplate finishing

I've got it laid in pretty close. i don't think its going to take a lot to close the little gaps. I watched that Grumpy Gunsmith on youtube use a rubber mallet to go around one he was working on. The only thing I have at the moment is a wooden mallet.

    Nailed buttplate finishing

Just did it Rob. Threw it on my fish cooker grill and was able to bend it with my hands. I've did steel before by just leaving it in a campfire till it burned out. First for brass. Thanks

    Nailed buttplate finishing

After reading about annealing brass I found out it is the opposite from steel. You heat and then quench it instead of letting it slowly cool. Weird.

    Pole axe

Found this old pole axe I made back in the day while rummaging through the garage. Made it out of a shingle axe. Certainly has the patina now. Gonna clean it up a bit and see what it looks like.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

First 2 day weekend I’ve had in a little bit. Got my buttplate inletted, top teardrop finial roughed out. Rasped in the rear stock shape. Noticed even though it was a plain maple stock it does have a few stripes along the top.

    Nailed buttplate finishing

Morning. Current project has a nailed buttplate which is a first for me. I’ve always secured one with screws, filed and sanded where the wood meets the metal, removed the screws and stained and sealed then put the buttplate back on. With the nails I’m not seeing removing it once it’s on? I guess...

    Gorgeous knife

I remembered seeing this a bit a go and spent two days searching on the web again for it. I’ve always had a thing for drop points. Even ordered some stock to try and make one close to it.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

It would take me 5 years to finish something if I did everything from rough like you. Mines been giving me side glances sitting on the desk for a week every time I walk past it.
