Round Ball performance story and question

80 or 90 grains behind a .490 round ball in the vitals will kill bear and deer at reasonable ranges. And I'd say recovering deer at 40 yards and even beyond is about what I expect and see every year.

How much to file the front sight

According to my math, raising the point of impact by 10" at a range of 50 yards (1800") would be proportional to filing the front sight down by 0.156" with a 28" distance between sights. That is, X = 10” 28” 1800” 1800 (X) =280 X = 280 1800 X = 0.156” You beat me to it, SDSmlf 👍

Nice shooting, RedOneFive. Looks like a well-fed pronghorn. How long was the shot? Did you use a blind or stalking?

    Lead ammo ban in Wisconsin?

Isn't this just for Wisconsin residents to participate in? Aside from that, what are the details or specifics of this lead ban? Is this lead ban for waterfowl hunting on Federal Refuges, deer hunting throughout the state, squirrel hunting with my pellet rifle? The question for the...

    How do you prime?

Coinneach, The Mumma priming horn comes with the vent pick in the stopper. I don't know how he does it, but it's handy. This priming horn easily nestles in my breast pocket, stays warm, waterproof, and never clogs up.

    Barktan deer leather

Details? What bark did you use? Where did you get your bark? Did you have to pickle the hide before tanning? How did you "break" the hide after tanning? What big vessel did you use for tanning? Is that deer hide? Thanks!

    Round ball and blood trails

Roundballs are very deadly. But, I’ve come to expect some things to likely be true after the shot. I treat shooting a flintlock like shooting deer with a longbow. The hit deer is going to run a bit. I figure anywhere from 35 to 125 yards before dropping. One deer last year ran probably 70...

    CLOSED Muzzleloader magazines for free

To give away MUZZLELOADER magazines from the following years. I have most of the issues from 2011 through 2023, although 4 years are missing an issue. Also a few issues from 2007 and 2010. I’d prefer to keep all 6 issues of a year together. You pay the postage, of course, is the catch...

What to do with worn out flints?

Not as sophisticated as Tom A Hawk's gizmo, but I use a Vise Grip w/leather to hold tiny flints.

Looking to try date to this musket, as the markings are indistinct apart from the crown engraving it's 75 cal, wooden ramrod, is it an Indian Trader?

Over the last week or so and including this new thread, there have been at least 2 posters who seem to take immense pleasure coming across as jerks when they post. Lately, what's wrong with the maturity of some members of this Forum? We're adults here who should act like we have some manners...
