Thread size for aperture of TC peep sight?

Does any one know the thread size for the aperture in the TC Hawken peep sights? My measurements come out to it should be a #12-40. Does anybody have a source for replacement apertures for these sights? Is it metric or SAE? I did not find any metric sizes close. It is the compact, low...

    Newcomer 2nd question

Yes you can mount a scope on a Hawken and many do. There used to be mounts available that used the screw holes for the open sight. There were some mounts that required drilling and tapping. The hammer will have to be bent or the scope offset. And...the nipple blast will get the scope dirty...

Thompson Center Hawken Round Ball Barrel?

It does not say Custom Shop on it. It does have a roll stamp that says Round Ball and 1-66 Twist that is enclosed by a signal line frame with scrolls on each end. Looking on the internet I see a few of these barrels have been for sale at various times. Not a Penn Hunter barrel either as...

Thompson Center Hawken Round Ball Barrel?

I went ahead and bought the barrel. $300. Almost perfect condition. I can not find my bore light right now but a patch through the barrel indicates no problems at all. It says Thompson Center Arms 50 Caliber Hawken on the barrel and it says Round Ball Twist 1-66 on the barrel. I will let...

Thompson Center Hawken Round Ball Barrel?

What might a Round Ball barrel in .50 caliber in good condition be worth these days? Any body know who made these barrels? Are they generally good shooters?

Is it a clean out screw?

Thanks for all who posted. The barrel is on E-xxx so you can take a look. I cannot tell if the threads are good and can not think of a real reason this plug would have ben removed. Plugging a breech plug is not something I want to do personally. The pictures I have seen of a Sharon barrel...

    Hawken sight screw thread..

Thanks for the advise. Not a clean job but here is what I did. Yes, I used drill press with cross vise and drill center to start. I managed to get a few threads of 8-40 in the rear hole. I stripped the front hole with that tap. I do not really know what I did wrong there. I suspect I...

Is it a clean out screw?

Can not figure out a way to provide the picture from the add for the barrel. The barrel certainly says Sharon on the barrel. It shows a hooked breech. I spent some time looking at pictures of Sharon barrels on muzzloaders on the internet and yes, they have a large screw in the left side of...

T.C Hawken .50 cal with Green Mtn Barrel

You have a fine rifle with a great barrel. Be sure to hang on to it because those barrels are hard to duplicate now. And...I would hunt deer with that rig. Personally I would want better sights for hunting. I have red dot sights mounted on a one of my muzzloaders and am working on a mount...

Is it a clean out screw?

Looked at a Sharon RB barrel for a TC Hawken on the internet. The picture shows about a 1/4" diameter threaded hole on the left side of the breech plug. It appears that there is no screw in the hole now and I cannot tell if the threads are good . None of my 4 barrels for a TC have a hole on...

    Hawken sight screw thread..

More questions. I bought 8-40 taps and tried to re-drill and thread the holes. I got threads in one of them. The other hole stripped while threading. Things I am considering: Tap to 10-32 get holes welded and re tap. Can a welder fill the holes with something that is soft enough to drill...

    Recommendations for .40 RB..

No, the ball gauges I got from Amazon are not "junk". The work fine. They are limited to .50 inches though.

    Recommendations for .40 RB..

Guys..thank you for your help. Unfortunately this thread was posted in the wrong forum. The gun I am asking about is a percussion rifle. Not sure how the thread got over here. Took be a while to find it.

    Recommendations for .40 RB..

My projects move with glacial slowness. But...I think I am finally headed to the range with this gun tomorrow. I have accumulated 3 sizes of balls. .389, .395, and .400. I have patching in .010, .015, .020, and pillow ticking at .018. I am going to shoot Pyrodex P fff at first. I ordered...

Is there a lube for shooting conicals?

Have a TC Hawken .50. 1-48 twist. I have some Buffalo Bullet conicals that came with it. Pretty old. What do you lube these bullets with? Or any lead bullets? Or do you load them dry? I see bullets on the Track of the Wolf site with "lube grooves".
