    flintlock in the rain?

I'm heading to the woods this afternoon. There is a 30 deg drop in temperature predicted between 1:00Pm and midnight which is perfect to get the deer moving, but there's light rain off and on here in Ga this afternoon. Any tips on keeping my load dry?

    sighting in / finishing advice

Guys, thanks for the advice... As I said before, this is new ground for me and this is why this forum is so beneficial for greenhorns. Without prior knowledge all I can do is take and heed advice, and you guys sound consistant. I'll start w/ a lighter load and just keep my sights tight so they...

    sighting in / finishing advice

Ready to blow some smoke. The wood on my .54 GPR is finished, most of the metal is finished, kit is assembled. I have not finshed the barrel nor have I installed the sights. I'm planning on putting them on and sighting in this weekend. My plan is to sight in, solder sights in, and then finish...

    make carvings "pop"

Thanks Ben, It's actually my first time carving. Figured all I could do was mess it up, and buy another stock. Couldn't find a chisel that suited me, so I ground down a broken flat head screwdriver to make a 2mm chisel. Really did the job, very tedious, but man it's alot of fun. Can't wait to...

    Gun sling ideas

I'm building a GPR (my first build), and Most of my hunting will be done on foot. We have very "hilly" terrain and I need to use my hands. I'm looking to make a gun sling. It doesn't have to be period correct, but I don't want swivels in my stock either. Any ideas or patterns for a simple sling?

    make carvings "pop"

Almost done with the wood work on my GPR. I'm planning on using Tung Oil to finish the stock, any ideas on how to make the carving really stand out? Someone told me to dab a little stain down in the carving and wipe the excess off real quick, so the only area that is stained is the bottom of...

    Browning barrel and action

Putting together a Lyman GPR, I'm trying to decide whether to brown the barrel or use a vinegar solution to finish it. The lock action comes already blued. If I take the action apart, remove the finish and brown it or use the vinegar solution, will it affect the action? Any suggestions on...

    stock carving

I'm in the middle of my first kit. It's a LGP with a walnut stock. I've begun some decorative carving (which is going well), but due to the walnut being so dark it doesn't really stand out. I'm planning on just oiling the stock rather than stain, and I've got a thought. I like the look of...

    "I wish I had..."

I purchased a Lyman GPR kit. It came in this weekend, I'm on fire and ready to get started. However, I don't want to get ahead of myself. Has anyone ever had one of those "wish I had thought about this before I started" moments, or any advice on the decisions I need to make now before diving in?
