Advice for a new builder
Don't be afraid to stretch yourself skill-wise if you feel capable of carving from a blank you may have the skill to "jumpin" and do a fancy rifle straight off. I carved a few stocks from pine and birch before cutting into fancy wood have bought TOW and dunlap wood I would give the edge to...- berryfarmer

finishing plain maple?
Ready to carve my JP Beck rifle from TOW and have been experimenting with finishes. Currently have Laurel Mountain "Lancaster" stain and it seems too reddish and light. The wood on the rifle is a very plain maple with very little figure so I will carve it a little more than planned as well as...- berryfarmer
