    'Ranger' Brown Bess

Thanks! I am aware of the potential drawbacks but it would be a lot longer before I could get something custom made. Thus far she has given good, hot spark so hopefully she will be one of the good ones, so to speak. Yes, made in India. They use teak dyed with walnut for the stock as walnut over...

    'Ranger' Brown Bess

I finally scraped enough to purchase one of these. I have not fired it yet; that will hopefully happen this week. It took a while to get some real black powder as it is scarce in Western Massachusetts. The piece is lovely. I got it from Middlesex Village Trading Co. I am absolutely delighted...

    New Flinter queries

I will check them out. Currently the kit I have runs around 284. When I got mine it was on sale and right around 250. Thank ya! Siani

    New Flinter queries

Understood. The price is what I had to spend so I know I'm at the bottom of the barrel so to speak. I am saving for something better, but it will take time. :) I am definitely going to give the lock it came with a try. I do not much care for the two piece stock either, but this beggar can't be...

    New Flinter queries

Hi guys! I have a Traditions Kentucky rifle kit..I'm about to begin working on it but I thought I'd ask a couple of questions of more knowledgeable folk before I get stuck in. Is upgrading to the lock Track of the Wolf offers as an option a good idea? Does it make a big difference? I do not...

    T/C Hawken lock problem

Interesting. I do use olive oil for the leather items I make and use in ancient reenactment activities. It works quite well..and now I think on it I also use it for my shortsword as well. Hmmmm. I use the old stuff to burn in my oil lamps. Pretty fair all around use oil. I had never thought...

    T/C Hawken lock problem

I have no intention of using vegetable oil. :) For now I have the basic gun oil...I will look into some of the others as time allows. I will, however, clean it often...lesson has been well learned indeed. :) Thanks guys! :)

I will do that thing...and look into better oil. :) Siani

    T/C Hawken lock problem

Some generic gun oil, since that is what I have at the moment. Siani

    T/C Hawken lock problem

I took the lock off and gave it a good cleaning and a bit of oil. Worked up all the rest of it while I was at it. That did the trick; she works a charm now, she surely does. Thank you gentlefolk. A little reminder along with a bit of humble pie is a good thing. It surely is. :)

    T/C Hawken lock problem

I'm pretty sure it is not something I am doing to it. I think gummed up is likely the problem. I noted this morning that I could hear it go into half cock when I pulled it back, which was not the case yesterday. I am about to pull it and clean it all up good and proper, as I should have done...

    T/C Hawken lock problem

I have not pulled the lock since it was repaired and I put it back in so that is very likely the problem. Guilty as charged.

I'll try that directly! Thank you kindly. :) Siani

    T/C Hawken lock problem

Hey guys. I have a T/C .50 Hawken with double set triggers. I had the lock fixed a couple of years ago because it would not half-cock...I sent it to T/C and they repaired it and it worked fine. I hauled it out and here we are again; it will not half-cock without several attempts...which is...

    Hello the camp!

My name is Siani, I'm 54, and I live in Western Massachusetts..Sunderland to be more precise. It was Swampfield back in Colonial days but they changed it..can't imagine why. ;) I have a T/C .50 Hawken percussion rifle and a Traditions Kentucky .50 flintlock..a kit rifle. That is it; still...
