Irrefutable proof: lets document how effective PRBs are this fall.

I'm still fine tuning mine, but the "proof" of PRB effectiveness is already in the history books. Otherwise North America would still be owned by the Indians and grizzly bears.

    GPR Nipples

I replaced the Lyman nipple with a Knight Red Hot.

    Sights on Lyman GPR

I had a similar problem with the adjustable rear sight on my GPR. I found that the notch wasn't machined cleanly and there were metal burrs inside the notch, and the notch itself wasn't cut square. A little careful filing with a knife-edge file cleaned it up nicely.

    Best Percussion Nipple?

I had quite a few misfires and hangfires with the stock stainless nipples I got with my .54 Lyman GPR. I switched over to CCI M11 magnum caps and changed out the nipple to a Knight Redd Hot. No misfires or hangfires that weren't self-inflicted since......and that is strictly using H Triple 7...

How does this compare with your state?

One season makes you look forward to the next. It's no big thing just a matter of attitude. I should add that in addition to the above tags, we also have registration hunts in certain areas for different species. For example this past season in addition to my regular moose and caribou tags, I...

    Sunday Hunting?

I never understood the practical purpose of blue laws. Glad I don't have to deal with them up here.

Help get lead legal for waterfowl

I have always believed (and still do) that the lead shot ban was a fraud which had a two prong objective. One was to ban hunting altogether by using the incremental approach starting with waterfowl hunting. The other was a backdoor approach at banning ammo since the antis couldn't manage an...

BP Substitutes & no lube on bullets

It's already lost. Due to our 'friends' at BATFEces and DOT the real stuff is impossible to get out here in Aleutian Hell.

    CCI Percussion Caps

Yup. Same here. I use the #11 CCI Magnums to light off Triple 7 in my .54 GPR. No misfires that weren't self-inflicted.

Does your state have a separate ML season?

Alaska does not discriminate against weapons during hunting seasons for big game hunting. However, the game board has wisely implemented "muzzleloader or shotgun only" in some of the more populated areas around Los Anchorage that were previously closed to big game (read moose) hunting which was...

    Powder won't ignite

Look on the side of the drum (thingy nipple is screwed into) there should be a screw or Allen screw there. It's called a clean out screw. Remove the nipple (a lot of times the nipple will screw up against the clean out screw to lock it in place) and then remove the clean out screw. Run a pipe...

    777 and prb

I've been using 777 in my .54 GPR caplock for a couple of years now. I have noticed the fouling gets damp, but never thought much of it since everything else out here is damp or soaked. I too shredded patches when I got the loads too hot. I've since found my accuracy load of 80 gr and my groups...

Do any of you wear camo?

ASAT. Turns me nearly invisible in the willows and birch stands.
