    12L14 steel strength

    Reply to Topic-- I remember some years ago, someone was doing tests on 12L14 steel. I think he was from Montana/Orion bbls. The only way he could get a bbl to fail, as I remember, was to ram the ball close to but slightly away from the powder charge. Doesn't a ball in this position increase...

    Reply to topic- I saw a shooter with a GM 13/16" .45 Round ball short start. Didn't hurt the barrel at all. Some one mentioned GM bbls and 1134 steel. They used to be advertised as using 1137 annealed.

    What is drill cloth?

    Response to topic- I bought some drill a couple of years ago. It only measured .014 but it's so dense it was harder to load than .018 pillow ticking.

    Ramrod stuck in barrel blues

    Reply To Topic-- Wooden ramrod stuck down barrel. Wrapped strip of cloth a few times around rod to protect rod. Grabbed rod around cloth with pliers and tapped up on pliers with hammer until rod came out.

    Reply to Topic--- I remember reading many years ago that to figure the distance for bird shot, multiply its actual size (no. 6 shot is .11 inches) by 2200. If you do this with a ,54 ball, it comes out to 1188 yards.

    GM IBS 40 cal owners

    When I shot offhand, I used 40 gr 3f, ticking and a .400 ball at 25 and 50 ygs. Lube was spit. At 100 yds I used 60 grains 3f - best there was 39X. Now I'm old and shoot of a bench and shoot mostly at 50 yds and use , usually ticking, 50 grains 3f and a .400 ball. Lube is usually Fantastic...

    Venting a Drum

    Same thing happened to me as with Zonie. I bought a 38" .40 cal. bbl (drop in) for my Renegade. After about 6 or 7 shots, it would hang fire. Someone drilled a little hole in the clean-out screw which helped completely with the hang fires but the accuracy worsened. Now, I just tap the rifle on...
