I am so pleased to find out that you are out of the hospital and back home. I hope you're in much better condition than when you had to be checked into the hospital. I wish all the best for your wife and her recovery. Just what you needed- a complication on top of the surgery for your wife. I...
Hoe gaan dit. I worked in South Africa at least one month each year from 1999 to 2016 and again in 2019. When some of my SA friends come to visit me here in Colorado, I take them to the shooting range and introduce them to muzzleloading.
The people on this site have been so very helpful. I've...
I hope to be there and, perhaps, compete. Given some health issues, I struggle to shoot standing freehand. At over 77 years of age, there likely will be a class I can shoot in, either leaning on a high stool or shooting from a bench. I'm not ready to stop shooting, regardless of limitations.
I shoot at the Ft. Lupton range, home to the Ft. Lupton Muzzleloaders Club. The range is a few hundred yards from the rebuilt old fort.
I go up to Arvada frequently to play with the Jefferson County Community Band. We practice at the Arvada United Methodist Church.
Yesterday, Wednesday, I had the pleasure to shoot muzzle loaders with my friend BigAl, a contributor on this site.
Shooting a flintlock or percussion gun is fun on its own. Shooting with a good friend makes it even better.
I shot with a beautiful, claro walnut stocked, Vincent (or Ohio style) 45...
The chestnut blight was brought in from Europe early in the 20th Century. By the 1970s, the Chestnut was wiped out except for a few large trees here and there and a few sprouts growing out of old, mostly dead trees.
Eventually, the remaining trees developed the blight.
The scientists have looked...
I use the clear tubing meant to connect air pumps to aquariums for aeration.
I cut the tubing into small lengths and place them over revolver nipples. The tubing extends just beyond the nipples.
For rifles, I use the same washers discussed earlier in this thread.
Additionally, I use a target...
Almost 77 years old, I have a strong desire to get up in the mountains on a crisp, cool day. The desire to hunt is not so strong.
Now, with mobility issues (I had to learn to walk again), mountain walking is out of the picture, so hunting is, too.
How do I know that the hunting drive is no...
We moved from Virginia to Colorado in 1985. Was your organization active pre'1985? I used to go to historic sites with books of maps of the battles and disposiof the troops. My son and daughter-in-law will go to Charleston, South Carolina first, then to visit relatives in North Carolina. I don't...
I mentioned on a different forum on this site that I was taking my son and daughter-in-law to shoot traditional muzzle loaders. They were going to the East Coast for a vacation and planned to visit Revolutionary and Civil War museums and parks and wanted to have the experience of shooting a...
Not today but tomorrow. I am taking my son and daughter-in-law to an outdoor shooting range to shoot my traditional muzzle loaders. My son has been an unmentionable shooter for a long time. He has shot muzzle loaders with me just a few times. His wife is a long time unmentionable shooter and has...
Good point.
A friend and I tried Winter snowshoeing near and below Mt. Evans (about 14,100 ft). We were at about 10,000 ft. Once, for one night, was enough. Never did it again.
Winter hiking and camping has its own rewards. I haven't hiked in the Adirondacks in the Winter, but I have hiked in the Blueridge Mountains and the Dolly Sods in West Virginia in the dead of Winter many times (long ago).
The solitude and quiet was wonderful. The naked trees punctuated by...
Happy Birthday, Dave! It’s June 13 as I write this. Nice horn. I like it. I'm sorry to see that you are going through these health issues. After all, you are just a young man at 74. I'm up on you by 2 years.
