    Tradition rifle kit

    Yeah that's true!

    Tradition rifle kit

Kibler's kits are very user friendly to assemble and he has great videos on youtube explaining basically every step in the process.

    Tradition rifle kit

Are you specifically looking for a kit by Traditions? If not, most people here, including myself, will recommend getting a kit from Jim Kibler for your first kit build. It will be more expensive than a Traditions kit, but it is well worth the extra money.

    Kibler Finish Question

I have used Permalyn and Tried & True on the two Kiblers I've assembled and preferred the Tried & True. It is probably not AS weather resistant as Permalyn, but I have had my rifle out hunting in rain and snow and the moisture seems to bead up on the surface. The Tried & True just has a much...

My first flintlock - Kibler WoodsRunner kit

As others have said, the tools needed to assemble the rifle are pretty minimal. If you want to add any carving or reshape anything, that will require some more tools. This Woodsrunner was the second rifle I've ever built/assembled. I decided to try my hand at some carving. I had never carved...

    Rookie Woodsrunner build

That is very similar to what I did with mine, except with the addition of tannic acid. I was very happy with the color that came out!

My first flintlock - Kibler WoodsRunner kit

If you haven't already, I would highly recommend watching the assembly/finishing videos that Jim has put out himself on youtube. It really helps to have the visual of what is being done during each step.

    Rear sight

I did the same on my Woodsrunner, and prefer it significantly over the tiny V-notch I had on my Colonial. Having that square notch instead of the V also allows me to shoot with both eyes open, which I wasn't able to do before. I also had to file down my front sight significantly as my point of...

    Woodsrunner and Colonial

I have had a Colonial and now have a Woodsrunner, both in .50. I hunted with the Colonial and will be hunting with the Woodsrunner soon. The Woodsrunner's handling and balance is far superior in my opinion.

    Woodsrunner barrel coloring

Yeah, Jax would be pretty easy to almost entirely rub away as well. The barrel might never go back to completely brand new bright, but it would be pretty close with the appropriate level of scotchbrite rub. My last rifle I did a similar treatment and the barrel was eventually almost nearly...

    Finished My Woodsrunner (Sort of)

Thank you sir! It is sort of a mixture of things I've liked from originals I've handled, contemporary ones I've seen, and my own ideas. I really see these rifles as something that should reflect the person who carries it, something very personal, with almost a spiritual connection.

    Woodsrunner barrel coloring

When you apply it, the barrel will go pretty black. But the more you scotchbrite it, the brighter it will go. Make sure you use a degreaser on the barrel first or it will be splotchy. I'd say mine still looks fairly bright from a distance with about half of the Jax rubbed away. And up close...

    Woodsrunner barrel coloring

I used Jax silver blackener on mine and then rubbed with back fairly bright with a scotchbrite pad. Sort of gives it the French grey look. The nice thing about it is you can adjust the darkness of the finish however dark or light you want it.

    Finished My Woodsrunner (Sort of)

Thank you! I'm pretty happy with how it came out for having never carved before! Thanks! I knew I wanted to incorporate it somehow as soon as I ordered this kit!
