    Maxi Ball Users and Results

My hunting partner got a nice 100lb dressed doe today. The tools were a TC Renegade with 80g FFF goex and a 350 grain TC Maxihunter. 50 yard shot went in one side and out the other. Recovered it within 50 yards. It didn't make it to the marsh. I think those will be in my rifle next year at...

    Maxi Ball Users and Results

I have my TC hawken .50 set up for round ball and was going to try 320 grain maxiballs to hopefully put em down fast. The place I'm hunting we don't have room to recover them if they make it to the marsh reeds near the river. Impossible to get in there to get them without sinking in the mud...

    Maxi Ball Users and Results

How many of you use TC Maxi Balls or similar and what loads have you cooked up and do you use bore buttons? I have a TC Hawken and have only used round ball. I want to use something with more energy so won't have to chase them too far.

    friend's stuck ball with powder

I have a solid stainless steel one piece range rod that is 32 inches and a ball puller and a length of rope in the range box. Screw in the ball puller and tie the rope around the handle and a fence post or reasonable facsimile and give a few good yanks. I had a ball stuck half way down my TC...

Frustrating Range Session with TC Hawken

Zonie and others thanks for the info. I was not paying attention to the nipple while loading the next ball. I will definitely remove the cap and half cock the lock before loading in the future. Thanks for the good advice. I had cleaned the rifle at the range the last time before this episode...

Frustrating Range Session with TC Hawken

It was a good learning experience. I have only been shooting black powder for about 9 months. It was the first ball that stuck on me in about 500 shots. So I was able to clear it. It was some pretty damp conditions that I was shooting in. Just after the ball got stuck the clouds opened up...

Frustrating Range Session with TC Hawken

Last Saturday I shot my TC Hawken .50 for the first time in three weeks after shooting 50 or more shots in a silohuette shoot the last time out with no problems. I had gotten some Lyman sights I needed to sight in for the next shoot this coming Saturday. The morning was overcast and humidity...

    Replacement sights?

Get a Lyman 57 SML Peep sight. It will fit directly on the tang and you have the hole drilled already. You can try it with the blade front sight. If you like you can get the globe front sight for target shooting. It is Lyman 17 AL that is used for the TC Hawken with the 57 SML peep sight. You...

    Hawken cap question

I had two misfires this past Saturday out of 50 shots with RWS Dynamite Noble caps on my TC Hawken. Left the inside of the cap (yellow powder) clogged in the nipple and had to pick it out. After I use them up I'm going back to the CCI Magnums.

    Hawken history

Check out this website. http://roxen.xmission.com/~drudy/mtman/museum/index.html According to the information they provide the PA longrifle was the most common firearm during the fur trade pereiod.

    Hawken history

A cap lock Great Plains rifle would be more PC. The cap locks of the time were probably converted kentucky longrifle style flint locks. Try this web site http://www.bbhc.org/firearms/index.cfm Even though the hawken should be fine. You can say you were one of the richer traders or you won it...

    target shooting

I did a silhoutte shoot last Saturday. My first one. My score was not very good. A few things working against me. Bad eye sight and a new used gun. I didn't have much range time with my TC Hawken 50 to get a good feel for it. Only shot 5 shots before putting 40 plus shots through it last...

Pyrodex P in .50 cal TC Hawken

Yeah, my Hawken I picked up used about a month ago and shot it for the first time last Saturday. It hadn't been shot for a long while. Dust in the barrel and fairly dry with a little surface rust in the barrel. I had to pound the ball down with the .018 TC pillow ticking. I dropped the rifle...

Pyrodex P in .50 cal TC Hawken

Anyone shoot Pyrodex P in the 1 in 48 TC Hawken .50 cal. I have tried it and it seems very good. Only took 5 shots with a 60 grain .490 pb load. I just got the Hawken used and am still working out the load. I know it doesn't like .018 patches. Hard loading and didn't hit the paper at 50...

    Working out the ball/patch size

I picked up a used TC Hawken .50 Cal about three weeks ago (serial number low 100K) It was in very nice conditon. Just shot it for the first time yesterday. When I got it home it had dust in the barrel. I cleaned it and put bore butter down for storage. The first patch I loaded was a TC .018...

    Used TC Hawken

Thanks for the info and advice. I'll take it out on Sunday and knock some rust out the barrel. I let yas know how she did.

    Used TC Hawken

Just picked up a used TC Hawken Cap Lock Serial Number in the low 100K range. I haven't shot it yet. It had not been shot for quite some time. Dust in the barrel. Bore was not brite to say the least it has rust. Did not see any pitting. Overall gun looks good. Aged nicely. Wood is good. I...
