Yule came early - Sons of a Trackless Forest

I've been looking for Sons of a Trackless Forest at a reasonable price. Because honestly, I'd love to be able to read it. My girlfriend knew I'd been looking, and went one better. She found the digital file in public domain and had it printed for me. :)

SOLD CW/Old West Gray wool shirt

'morning, I know What Price Glory did good quality WW2 gear, I wasn't aware that they did CW. Assuming that they did the same level for that, this is a steal for someone. Mike

SOLD Victorian Era Flint Pistol Copy

Interesting, thank you for the back story. I wasn't aware of this class of weapons. Mike

    DIY cleaning patches

'morning, Old t-shirts work just fine. Cut it into strips 2-2.5" wide and then reduce the strips to squares. Make 'em slightly larger for bigger calibers, or smaller. Obviously, don't use the parts with designs on them, but there's usually a lot of t-shirt that is useable. Mike

Lubricating a Garret Sharps removable Chamber Bushing

'morning, Beautiful rifle! My Garret is not nearly so pristine. Part of the frozen sleeve issue is also the difference between carbines and rifles. Even though the lock is the same, all manufacturers (that I'm aware of) use a shorter sleeve in the carbines. The longer rifle sleeve is unable to...

    SOLD Hand gonne, .75 caliber

That didn't take long. :) And I'll admit being tempted. I've regretted letting my gonne go years ago. They are fun! Mike

Who makes this small lantern from "The Woodland Escape"?

'evening, Knew I'd seen them before. Luck was with me and the first site I tried had it (or very similar). Blockade Runner (https://www.blockaderunner.com/Catalog/catpg27a.html), scroll about half way down. I've always passed on that style because it seems blocky compared to the folding pocket...

    Good little vise.

'morning, Not nearly the same as yours, but I picked up one like this for in my repair box that goes with me to events. Jaws are 3" wide and open about the same, but super handy when working on something and you need a steady third hand. Mike

    Trying to lighten the cookware

Howdy, USSS, United States Sharp Shooters, or more commonly known as Berdan's Sharpshooters. If I remember correctly, during the ACW (they were mustered in late '61 and the pack/mess tin were original issue that disappeared later in the war), the mess tin was based on a French design. I know...

    Trying to lighten the cookware

'morning, Whitworth's comment made me think. While it's ACW period, so probably not historically correct for many on here, the mess kit used by the USSS is a fantastic set up. Essentially a larger boiler, a smaller boiler/cup and a small fry pan. I modified the handle that hooks in, and added...

    Traditions 1861 springfield?

'morning, Agreeing with Trot, they're decent guns. No issues out of the box, and parts are available. One downside that I've noticed is that the half cock is usually very low (the hammer is barely above the cone). For range use, that's not an issue, but if you're using it as a reenactor weapon...

SOLD Stainless Coffee Pot $45 (SOLD)

'morning, See if a magnet will stick to it. If it's stainless, it's non-magnetic. Tin is magnetic. Beautiful piece, I just don't have a use for it or I would have snagged it already. :) Mike

Large volume water storage at events

'afternoon, Love some of the more period ones (a 2-3 gallon wooden keg with stand and spigot is on the wish list), but honestly, I second the Arizona Tea jugs. I rarely need to take more than 2-3 gallons, and half of that goes to others in the unit that don't think to bring water. Mike

10.38 oz vs 13 oz Sunforger?

'morning, All of my tents have been 10.38 marine boat shrunk, and they have held up very well. Still get some shrinkage, but not horrible. When I talked with Panther many years ago, before buying my first one, they said that 13oz is way overkill for most purposes. Plus, it is considerably...

    Stirrup replacement ?

Thanks Pete! Yup, I've another lock that I'm going to use as a reference to make sure I've got the alignment right. I'm just not willing to pull one of mine apart to play with it as a learning experience. Any idea if I need to pull the tumbler, or can the pin be inserted from the "inside" of...

    Stirrup replacement ?

Thanks Zug - he's got the parts, I've just never replaced a stirrup before. Hoping for some hints on that aspect. Thanks, Mike

    Stirrup replacement ?

'morning, In the near future, I'm going to be replacing the stirrup and mainspring on a friend's ArmiSport 1861 Springfield. Any tips or tricks for the stirrup? The stirrup is actually missing on this musket. He brought it to the last event of the year, along with a new mainspring, because the...

SOLD - Pending funds Pedersoli 1859 Sharps Berdan Infantry Rifle

'morning, Actually, that's not an Infantry, that's the Berdan Sharpshooter model. Infantry has a single trigger and a travel lock for the loading lever. Berdan's has the double set trigger. Mike
