    TC hawkin trouble

Just send it back to TC. If you call, they will tell you to send it with a letter explaining the problem. They won't even log it until it is sent in. They are not concerned whether you are even the original owner. Their only request is that you remove the barrell from the stock before...

    Sharps Bullet Mold

Have you tried: Cigarette papers (double wide) Perm papers Airmail paper I have had a few conversations with some that swear by these, I have not tried any of them for tubes, yet. I am still using the nitrated papers from Dixie. I do use the perm papers for my ends and they do not impede...

    Sharps Bullet Mold

I use Cabela's black powder lube. It almost reminds me of parafin wax when it sets up. It comes in a small container that has a wide top. I set the container in a pot of boiling water and melt it. I then dip the bullets in the lube and let them dry. I then use an abrasive cloth to clean off...

    GPR Kit tang fit

I know the lady at Lyman was pretty interested in who was the QC checker at their place. I understand that they supposed to be checked by them after they get them from Investarm. Spot, were I you, I would write up the letter describing the problem in detail, include it and a copy of your...

    GPR Kit tang fit

I am sorry to hear that. Lyman is very responsive, so take heart. Had I not sent mine around the holidays, I would have seen it back in under 2 weeks. Shipping time is the biggest delay. They will just have you send the whole kit to them with a description of the problem. I was sent a whole...

A rasp may get it down quick, but I had better luck with 80 grit paper and a sanding block.

    Thoughts on Steel Wool

For working wood, using the scotch brite pads that simulate steel wool are a good product. They range in coarseness from green, red, grey and white. I find the white ones at automotive paint stores. One way I found that worked well with the wool on the barrel flats is to wrap it around a file...

    Shotgun wads

Two Shadows, Do you use any lubricant on the cushion? My local ML shop had 12 guage wads, overpowder and overshot 100 each in one bag for $4.25 and shot cushion wads lubed with wonderlube for $4.25. If these work well (I am testing more for size and loading), the Circle Fly overpowder and...

    Shotgun wads

A few questions for those that shoot shotguns: What thickness and what diameter cardboard do you use for 12 guage overpowder and overshot wads? What commonly found material do you use to make them? Do you use a special tool/punch to cut them?

    Magnetized barrel

Normal, don't worry about it. I kept the air compressor running and blew it off every now and again.

    The GPR kit arrived today!!!

I had no inletting except some very minor barrel inletting on the bottom. Looking at the way your barrel lays without pins, I doubt that you need any inletting there (unless your tang wasn't set in that picture). For me, the barrel went very quickly. It was removing the casting lines on the...

    GPR Kit

Looks good and it looks like they did a very good job on the inletting around the lock and the barrel channel, it is laying down nicely. You can now see where they leave quite a bit of wood for you to remove. A very nice winter project.

    The GPR kit arrived today!!!

Spot Shooter, First off, congratulations on getting the kit. It is an exciting day when it arrives. Lyman states in their manual and instructions that it is 95% inletted and most, if not all, parts will fit with no additional inletting. However, they have chosen to be "meticulous" and...

    Chemicals for the GPR

Odd how varied the European/Italian woods can be. I have an IAB Sharps, the GPR and a Pedersoli double shotgun and the first two are light as light can be, requiring stain. The Pedersoli wood is so dark that with just using oil it is as dark as the stained GPR. Funny.

Thank you for the advice. Since this is a learning experience, it should be fun.

    Linseed oil finish

I have decided to put a linseed oil finish on the Pedersoli shotgun I just bought. Once an hour for a day, once a day for a week, once a week for a month and once a month for a year. Pictures and updates to follow.

    Chemicals for the GPR

Unless you are dead set on the stain, I would test it and the BC walnut to compare. On your brown barrel, the brown of the Casey's might look more accurate/better. Just a personal opinion. I tried a few other stains before settling on the Casey's. Whatever stain you decide upon, water based...
