It looks like all the parts will need sanding/polishing. You will probably want a main spring vise to take the lock apart for polishing and inlaying. The polishing and inlaying will keep you busy for awhile.

I would see if Chambers would replace it. It will continue to bug you when you think it could be better.

What Col. Batguano said plus you need to leave your tang thick enough to counter sink your tang to trigger bolt for a flush tang fit.

I buy mine at ACE hardware. Unplated wood screws with a single slot.
