    Tenon Wedge

Is that what that pin in the fore end is called? On my Investarms Hawken it does its job well and is in there snug, but come out easily by hand when I want to remove the barrel for cleaning. The wedge pin in my Renegade, though, is a bear. Any tricks to get those out without possibly marring...

    New Nipple Problem

Just screwed in a new 1/4 x 28 spitfire nipple into my t/c renegade, perfect fit. But the hammer, by just the tiniest little bit, when I let it down carefully on the nipple doesn't come down flush on the nipple. The edge of the opening on the hammer barely hangs up on the tip of the nipple and...

    unusual stuck ball

Great! Thanks, Melnic. I also have ordered a CO2 kit. I had my own little adventure with a dry ball the other day. My own tale is in a thread in the same section of the forum. Your solution was a lot slicker, though! Ha, ha. :rotf:

    unusual stuck ball

Melnic, would you mind getting VERY specific and lay out the exact getup you used here, especially the size fitting you used to screw into the hole where the nipple was? Probably overkill, but forewarned is...., well, whatever that saying is! Congratulations on getting that ball out. Amazing...

    dry ball again

Dang, love this forum. I just hated the helplessness of that dry ball down there, but at least I knew from you guys the FIRST time giving me the remove the nipple and put powder down trick I felt more in control. Then the not feeling or seeing that it had actually worked till I saw that my...

    dry ball again

Rifleman, do you know where I could buy one of those nipple primers? I ordered myself a CO2 kit just in case, too. Gonna be prepared for any future "eventualities." In other words, my own idiocy!

    JB Bore Paste

Is there any reason to use a bit of JB bore paste in your muzzleloading barrel? I read different things about it, even shooting a couple of patches lubed with it with your round ball every once in a while. If recommended for any use, are there different types that may be better? Thanks.

    Powder Types

Thanks to all for the info. I'll stick to Pyrodex and hunt for some of the real blackpowder. It should be designated FFG, right?

    Powder Types

Is Blackhorn 209 powder ok for traditional percussion cap rifles? I've used only Pyrodex. And then there's Triple 7, which I've never used either. If BH and T7 are both ok, is it correct that pretty much the same number of grains in my powder measure (by volume) are equivalent for all three...

    T/C nipple thread size help

Tried to search forum on this. I need to replace the nipple on my t/c renegade. I know my investarms hawken nipple has 6 X .75 threads and the spitfire nipple I got for it fits perfectly and works great. The same nipple will screw into my t/c renegade a ways but then stops and I'm not going...

    dry ball again

Ok, I know you've all been sweating out my latest adventure into the melodrama of muzzleloading. Sure, ha, ha. I wouldn't have lasted two days in my gg grandpa's regiment. Got to post his photo with his rifle, a gun he no doubt never dry balled. So, I appealed to my rational self, returned to...

    dry ball again

Youre so right! My mantra is powder, patch, ball, start, seat. If youre near you can hear me actually audibly saying these to myself and see my intensity in blocking out. Now this. The fear of loading on top of that ball and patch is a bit OCD but cant help it because i didnt hear or see it...

    dry ball again

But empty mark on ramrod is with permanent marker and marked with pen with pen resting on muzzle so mark isnt exactly flush with end of muzzle. Just a bit above muzzle. Thinking that a ball and patch alone wouldnt be enough to be significant so could ball still be down there?

    dry ball again

At range shooting up a storm my 54s. Was shooting renegade or at least we thought that dream shooter i bought at the gun show was that t/c model. You guessed it dry balled a ball and patch. Removed nipple got a little powder down her. Ball well seated. No luck on several tries cap ignited...

Lubed Patch for Great Plains Bullets??

I've got a CVA Stalker Carbine, a Thompson Center Renegade, and a Investarms Hawken, all 54 cal. Been shooting lubed patch RBs galore. I like modest loads of Pyrodex, usually 65 to 75 grains by volume. I suppose a 425 grain Great Plains will need a few grains more of powder? I've tried to...

Lubed Patch for Great Plains Bullets??

I'm still confused on whether to use a lubed patch between a 425 grain Great Plains bullet and the powder in my traditional percussion cap 54 caliber rifles. Shot only patched round balls in them, and just for a new thing am going to try the Great Plains. I read different things. And if I...

My CVA Stalker Barrel and Sight

Third photo didn't load. Here's the part that goes into the groove. Thanks. [/img]

My CVA Stalker Barrel and Sight

I've had, I'm ashamed to say, a CVA Stalker Carbine .54 cal. that's stood in a corner of the living room for about ten years. Unlike my other sidelock, never fired. Time to take her out to the range, poor thing. Patches down the bore clean as a whistle. There are tiny patches of rust just...
