    Looking for info

It might be Pietta. I also have a Navy Arms kit 1858 from the late 1970s that is only identified as being from Italy. The one identified as a Pietta has similar stamps on the frame.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I epoxied a front sight to 1861 Springfield to sight it in before I solder it permanently.

    New Arkansas Reg: “Alternative weapons”

I’ve found them at a couple of Walmarts outside my immediate area when traveling. That was earlier in late summer. They seem to get maybe 10-20 tins per store and when they’re gone they’re gone. Our local store carries almost no muzzleloading supplies. Local gun shops only have the modern inline...

Worked on cleaning up a front sight to put on a 1861 Springfield reproduction.

    Powder Horn filling?

I just make a funnel of sorts with my thumb and first finger wrapped around the horn opening and carefully pour. I’ve done it that way for years. Nothing else to carry around or lose.

    “Dry ball”

This thread has grown, my 2 cents, I’ve dry balled plenty of times and years ago I used a ball puller to get them out. These days I can usually get them out by pulling the nipple and adding powder or stuffing powder in the touch hole on a flinter.

    Engraved capper

I’m sure I don’t have the patience for engraving. I admire anyone who will tackle it.

Why do we use pillow ticking? What qualities make a good patch?

I’ve found red and blue ticking no longer indicates pillow vs mattress tick as it seemed to do years ago. As Grenadier pointed out. One can feel the difference in thickness but a caliper or micrometer is the best way to check.

    1861 Springfield front sight

Thanks Longbeard. I don’t have a bayonet for it and am putting on the taller front sight so general range of those should be okay.

    Musket stock? Belgian? Identification needed.

I picked up one of the two piece locks at a gun show cheap a while back. I had no idea what it fit.

    I have a Problem

It’s been shared before but Harbor Freight has left hand drill bills. Often when you are drilling something the offending part will spin out. Others may sell them too.

    1861 Springfield front sight

How far back from the muzzle is it mounted?

    1861 Springfield front sight

I recently purchased an 1861 Springfield Armi Sport reproduction. It is missing the front sight and doesn’t show any evidence of where the sight was on the barrel. I ordered a replacement and have received it. I’m wondering how far back from the muzzle to place it. If any of you have this rifle...

    CVA Colonial Pistol Sights

You could get a taller dovetail front sight and replace the short little one. You would have to cut a dovetail but then you would have options without lowering the rear sight too much.

Thompson Center Hawken Round Ball Barrel?

With 1/66 twist it must have been a TC custom shop order. Good buy.

Thompson Center Hawken Round Ball Barrel?

If it is in good shooting shape without pitting I would guess $100-$200 as long as it has original sights and ramrod thimbles. A ramrod helps too. If it has been tapped for a scope or is pitted in the bore that will reduce the value. Also if the serial number begins with a K it is a kit barrel...
