Depends on the gun. Some like a .595, others a .600, and still others as big as a .610. Try all three and see which one works best for you.

I'm with the leave-it-alone crowd. It shows honest wear.

It isn't an ember from the flash pan that ignites the main charge. It is the heat of the flame that does that job. The touch hole liner is coned on the inside. This moves the powder in the bore a little closer to the heat source when the priming charge ignites.

Sure. It's easy. Take your rifle out and shoot it. Then, take a used cleaning patch and rub it on your brass parts. It'll blacken quickly. And no harm to the wood.
