    Hello from So Cal!

I have not shot conicals in over 50 years. Bismuth casts a bit larger than lead, so I needed a thinner patch. But at 50 yards, I find both shoot about the same, or as close as my shooting permits. YMMV

    Hello from So Cal!

My experience in California is that most ranges still allow the use of lead for target shooting, and most of the state only requires nonlead projectiles for hunting. I have a stock of bismuth round ball for my muzzleloader.

Musket caps for .32 Kentucky Rifle

IMO, having nipples for both the musket caps and the #11 is a plus for any percussion rifle. Keep both nipples in the bag.

How Big ya need …to feel Safe?

My choice would be the biggest caliber that you can comfortably and accurately shoot with "big game" load, whether it be PRB or conical. A rifle that knocks you on your ass with a hunting load is not likely get used very much.

    RANGE FINDER?

Excuse me for nitpicking, but if rangefinder says 25 yards, and tape measure says 46 yards, how is the difference 4 yards? My old-fashioned math tells me the difference is 21 yards.

    Casting round ball

If the balls are wrinkled, the lead or the mold is too cold. Toss them back in the pot and try again.

    Novelty shooting match suggestions please.

At our shoots, we try to use biodegradable targets. Eggs, Briquettes, crackers, etc. One target is to staple a full suit of cards to one of our target backings, and shoot 5 rounds for the best poker hand. Cards are spaced far enough that no one shot can hit 2 cards.

    What is this…

I have one. As stated, it allows you to use a large rifle or #209 primer instead of a percussion cap. You install the lower half in the rifle, in place of a percussion nipple. You unscrew the top, put a primer in the pocket, and screw the top back on. Shoot as normal. You then remove the...

How do you wear your kit?

Entirely my personal opinion: I shoot right handed, so I wear my bag and horn on my right side, with the straps on my left shoulder. My bag strap has a pair of loops to hold my short starter. A patch knife is in a sheath on the bag strap. I have a pan charger or capper, a powder measure, and...

    SOLD TF-O patch knife

I'll take it. That knife is just too good to be wasted gathering dust in a drawer. I did give the rest of the forum ample opportunity to buy it. I suspect some people are put off by the many low-quality copies of that style coming out of India.

Which story is most movie worthy?

    Jack Hinson's One Man War.

    Thread Adapter Kit

Every time I place an order with TOTW, I add a set of adapters. It is amazing how fast they disappear.

Man Who Stole Johann Christian Oerter Rifle Sentenced

The article says it was stored in a barn. I doubt it was kept under proper conditions. I have a couple of barn finds, and they are rough condition, even for modern manufacture.

SOLD flints for sale or trade

I'll buy them if the other two ahead of me drop out.

Howdy From the Colorado High Country

Welcome. Depending on where in CO you are, there are several muzzleloading groups around. Check out the Mountain Man store in Manitou Springs. That was my "go to" place when I lived in Colorado Springs.
