A New Patch Knife out of old straight razor

I can cut myself with a safety razor. No way would I, or could I, shave with a straight razor. But I remember watching my grandfather using one. I never once saw him use anything but. And I remember thinking no way, no how. When I was in the Air Force, stationed in Taiwan in the early 70s, I...

    Interesting percussion rifle.

The owner said he built it. He said he's been building muzzleloaders since 1959. It was an awesome rifle, very well made.

    Interesting percussion rifle.

I did some google searches to see if I could find a similar lock. I think I found it. It's a mule ear. Ver interesting.

    Interesting percussion rifle.

No, I was on my way out, when I thought about getting a couple of shots. I should have taken my time and gotten more of the rifle, and of different angles. But, I needed to get on the road so just snapped a couple of the lock.

    Interesting percussion rifle.

I was at the range this morning to shoot my flintlock. A couple of folks were already there, one with a flintlock, and the other with a very interesting percussion. I've never seen anything like it.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Began work on fItment and stock sanding on my Traditions Kentucky rifle kit. I actually began yesterday but didn't do much then. I'm going to take my time and try to do a better job than I did on my Frontier (although I think I did pretty good for a first ML build).

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Signed for the UPS guy who delivered my Traditions Kentucky Rifle kit. Then did some more work on a Bison powder horn I'm slowly working on. The horn's going to have to wait, cuz I'm going to get started on the rifle.

I just shot my new Trapper last week. I used .490 balls with .015 lubed patch. I had no issues with mine. What size patch are you using?

    Traditions/Ardessa

What TreeMan said. When I built my Traditions Frontier, I had put the spring in upside down. Took the barrel off, reversed the spring, and now it works like a charm.

    Powder horn project

I’m working on a powder horn, using a bison horn. The directions don’t say, but should you use any kind of coating on the horn when you’re done? The only thing the directions say is to polish the horn with fine grit sandpaper or steel wool. I’ve finished with the steel wool, but I’m curious if I...
