    Horrible experience with Plum Brown

As an internet person I have not had a bad finish with PB yet. I follow the directions on the bottle, the critical part is to keep the metal clean and have even heat. A clean pair of cotton gloves will keep your hands from getting oil on the object. Do you allow the parts to cool between coats?

    Spring making

A recent antique pistol of civil war age came with a broken main spring. Using the 1095 spring stock sold by Brownell’s it was easy to make a new one. Gluing it to piece of metal allowed me to draw file the thickness down to match the broken one. The material is easy to saw and file to shape and...

    cutting and crowning a barrel

I would cut and crown that barrel. How a barrel lets go of the projectile is important. If coning it I prefer a much shallower job then I’ve seen done with the Joe tool. The barrel on the left is how I crown a barrel and load without a short starter. The other may work well but you can see the...

    Bend the sear bar up?

Move the hammer to half **** and the sear will probably be below the edge of the plate.

    Bend the sear bar up?

I’d start by contacting Chambers and explaining the issue. They would be best qualified to answer any questions you have.

    New Frizzen needed?

Looks normal, if it sparks then investigate ways to make your flints last. How they are mounted and the shape makes a difference.

    Sight Placement, Especially Rear

Place the sight of choice on the barrel then shoulder the rifle as if to shoot. Slide it forward and back till it is the best place for your eye. Also make sure it’s not where the gun balances in your hand.

What do you guys lube your C&B revolvers with?

I use wads, when I used grease over the ball after the first shot most of the grease was blown off the other chambers.

    Stuck loaded

Straighten out a hair pin and scrape out as much as you can from the removed liner. Then put as much dry powder in and replace the liner. Shoot it out immediately.

    Opinions on unmarked .45 rifle

Dandy rifle, could have been made from the 1850s to recently. Good craftsmenship threw out.

    Breech plug removal question.

Don’t remove the breech plug, there is no reason unless you are replacing the barrel. Think of it like taking the glass out of a window, if it ain’t broke don’t.

    Looking for info

I bought that same type imported by Navy Arms in the early 70s and it cost $60 new. Shot it till it got loose in a few years.

    54 Caliber Woodsrunner Hunting Loads

.530” ball, heavy pillow ticking cut at the muzzle, 80 grains 2fg GOEX I don’t use any lube on the patch for the load I carry then spit if I reload.

    Sight movement

That’s the built in tolerance and of little consequence at 50 yards under hunting conditions. My suggestion is if it bothers you replace the rear sight with a solid sight.
