    Barrels Silver Soldered or Brazed

Oh, and FWIW I think I'm gonna solder the barrels back but these epoxy suggestions are awesome. I already have a few other peojects I plan on utilizing that info for. I also found it strange Potterdield used standard Tin/ Lead solder and not silver solder.

    Barrels Silver Soldered or Brazed

I'm loving all your replies. Eterry has a point, this is not a six figure H&H, lol. I've probably got a Ben Franklin into the gun. If you saw some of the other repairs that I have to make you'd have a head shaker. I just bought it to fix up, maybe shoot, maybe not. I'm already working on turning...

    Barrels Silver Soldered or Brazed

I sid try googling soldering copper but just came up with 100 sites on how to solder copper pipes. Thanks Google, I got that down already, lol.

    Barrels Silver Soldered or Brazed

If that is the heating element they ised to put up the barrels to heat from the inside to melt the solder, I saw that used once and it is absolutely the thing to use for this. Unfortjnately I do not have one. Does anyone know what it is called exactly? I'd like to find some pictures and make one...

    Lyman 450229

Just got my Lyman 450229 in the mail. Anyone ever use these? Been looking for one for 3 years. Finally a decent priced one came up so I jumped on it. I need to grab my calipers and see what size it actually throws. Hopefully it's .451 or bigger. Otherwise we gonna be doing some lapping, lol.

    Latest Rifle Score

I didn't think about that. I guess the only option for .54 is the GM replacement barrel. TOW has it in 15/16.

    Latest Rifle Score

Finally scored my first Hawken. T/C in .45. She's a shooter not a beauty queen so don't fault her looks, lol. What year T/C Hawken barrels interchange with this one? I'd like to get a .54 or .58 off of a Big Boar.

    Tips for Shaping Brass

I wondered about that too. All my files have been steel used. Always looking for a new excuse to buy more tools. Can brass and wood files be interchanged after leaning them up?

    Tips for Shaping Brass

I thought of using dowels and cutting square blocks for flat surfaces. The trigger guard is atrocious right now. PO already jacked up the front screw holding it on. I assume he didn't know a kit gun required fitting everywhere, lol.

    Tips for Shaping Brass

So I have never heard that phrase before but that is the truest statement I've ever heard!

    Barrels Silver Soldered or Brazed

I have heard that epoxy can be ised too. That's been my Ace in the Hole backup in case I screwed up soldering, lol. Do you remember what type of epoxy you used? It sounds like it was a lifetime ago and now it seems there's more types of epoxies than stars in the sky, lol.

    Barrels Silver Soldered or Brazed

I have a 16 ga Josh Golcher Percussion Double that the rib is seperating halfway down the barrels. Did they use Silver Solder (~3%) or a higher temperature Silver Brazing (~56%) to put the original on and can the lower temperature silver solder be used to reinstall it to keep from detatching the...

    Tips for Shaping Brass

Any specific kind of files? I've been thinking of getting a new set of files and rasps since I have some projects coming up that will require some more intricate shaping work.

    Tips for Shaping Brass

Can anyone point me to some videos or offer some advice on finishing rough cast brass? Picked up an old Replica Arms kit gun that needs all the brass worked down and woodwork finished. Woodwork I should be good with but yhe brass is something I've never ventured into before. Thanks.

    Your first ML rifle

No real interesting story with mine. My firearm loves seem to be regressing to more and more primitive tastes. Decided I wanted to build rifles from scratch so I had to buy one first to see how they worked. Picked up a cheapo FIE .45 longrifle off GunBroker and love it. Gonna build a new stock...

    Lower Quality Barrels

Nice call! Not EXACTLY what I'm looking for, BUT, they do sell used barrels that I can cut up if I can't find exactly what I want. They do have a boat load of cool stuff in their Misc category, lol, my favorite.
