    Brass frame revolvers

I can't imagine that the manufacturers were very concerned about the exact alloy; I'm sure they used whatever they could obtain.

    DIY Defarbing and Refinishing

Continuing from my earlier posts, and for those interested, I did some bluing today, before the cold weather arrives. 98 Mauser barreled action, 308 Winchester, 22" barrel.

    anti-gun USPS

Exactly! USPS has NEVER asked me what was in the package. They do ask a series of questions regarding safety. I answer these truthfully. Never a problem. Always be certain to package your item carefully and very sturdily. Don't axe, don't tail! ;) ...but do not lie either...

    DIY Defarbing and Refinishing

NO! NO! NO!!!!:oops::oops: Do not nitre blue anything that is tempered or is a load bearing element! Nitre bluing requires something like 750 degrees to do right. That will destroy a cylinder or frame. New guns that are "Nitre Blued" or "Charcoal Blued" are no better than the "Color...

I don't know if a hotplate would put out enough heat. The solution has to get to 292° (going from memory here). Give it a try, and let us know if it works.

Regarding a tutorial, there is really nothing much to add to the directions that come with the Brownell's bluing salts, other than the directions are geared to a full shop bluing set up. My contribution is show that first class, professional bluing can be done at home, and using minimal...

Here are pictures of a repro Remington that I cut down and re-blued about 12 years ago. My first black powder gun....

    DIY Defarbing and Refinishing

Here are some pictures I took while bluing some black powder revolver parts a few years ago. The pictures will tell the story better than I can. I have full sized tanks and gas burners for when I want to blue rifles. The small tank (made from a 50-caliber ammo can) and camp stove are great...

Wemt over to the dark-side briefly!

I like shooting Mauser and AR-15 rifles, 1911 pistols, and Colt and S&W revolvers.

    DIY Defarbing and Refinishing

FYI, you can make an excellent handgun, or other parts, bluing tank out of an old 50 caliber ammo can. You can rust blue, or better yet, hot oxide blue. Light years better than any cold "blue".
