Late to the party have not logged in to MLF in a while. Firm believer in permethrin on clothes. I buy the 10% Gordons at TSC and mix it 20:1 with distilled water in a 1-L graduated spray bottle. Spray 2-3 sets of clothes, hang to dry on the clothesline. When one set gets dirty you've got a...

    Conical Terminal Performance Research

3" tree?, 4" might have been exageration. It was close to size of my wrist, and it fell over. Pine and it had a snowload on it. This was in the 1980s before cell phone cameras, so I can't go find the tree. Ron, your exploits at long range BP hunting far exceed mine, and I enjoy your posts...

    Trail-cam pictures.

I hunted him never got a shot. Found piles he left that would overfill a 5-gal bucket. He'd come down in the orchard after dark. That cat is biggest I ever saw too. I had a bird feeder next to my deck, and big hollow pine nearby with a grey squirrel condominium inside. One morning got up...

Limits of Hard Cast Roundball when hunting

I remember wayback. "Roundball" was experimenting with marbles. Not greatest for hunting but he shot them like a PRB.

Limits of Hard Cast Roundball when hunting

How about a paper patch all copper bullet? They expand like hell with right point, and can can have a high BC. Loading might be hell? Mods, if this too modern, scratch this post. I'm just floating an idea.

Yes, Ron sticking with the story. Deer was ~130lb doe at ~ 25yds in a swamp. My 58 525gr max load 90gr FFg. It blew right through the deer like it was not hit. Deer didn't know it was already dead. I had a similar experience with my 54, but didn't kill any trees I know of. Again blew right...

    Conical Terminal Performance Research

Ron I've used the Hornady GP in my 58/525gr (owch!) and 54/425gr. They do flatten out but I've rarely recovered one from a deer. That mushrooming just like a PRB means the energy is getting transfered. As long as the bullet gets to vitals that's fine, even without a pass through. Were not...

    Conical Terminal Performance Research

I have a Renegade with a 50 cal 1-28 GM barrel. Years ago I picked a 720 rd case of Buffalo Bullets for $40. They are 385gr and similar to Hornady GP bullets. I found 70 80 and 90gr (maxload) FFg, with the bullet seated on a wonder wad all shot excellent. Recoil was noticeably more when...

Ever shoot a stuck ball...what happened?

I've shot a stuck ramrod. A few grains of powder through nipple hole then aim straight up. Reminded me of time as a kid doing that with arrows... BTW, 50 grains is way too much, could bulge the barrel if the ball is not seated

How many of your rifles have killed deer?

58 Lyman and 54 Renegade. First ML deer was with the Lyman in the 1980s Others I've not taken hunting deer. One is a rack queen a 54 TC hawken with unfired NOS 1-66 barrel, a 50 Renegade that's only been out a few times, and 12ga TC with a Toledo full choke bird barrel.
