    Bobby Hoyt

Bob removes the sights and thimbles. Just ship him the barrel with your instructions note. When I spoke to him he told me that the depth of the threaded thimble & sights holes ultimately dictates how much material he can remove...what is the largest cal he can turn a given barrel into. As for...

    Bobby Hoyt

He's rebored a couple of barrels for me and I couldn't even tell that he removed the breach plug...he's that good. Not a mark. I too was concerned about him possibly messing up the plug on my gun if it started fighting him upon removal and when I spoke to him about it he told me that he's...

    Safety glasses

Boy you guys really have me thinking twice about not wearing safety glasses. I guess I've just been lucky shooting 4,000 - 5,000 percussion loads and never having a problem...knock on wood. Funny how at our ML club eye and ear protection is mandatory for youths (< 16 yr olds) but only...

    Let's get the lead out!

I really like the lead wipeaway clothes. I use them religiously for cleaning the burn marks on revolvers but also every other time I clean my MLs (only in the bore). Just clean your ML as you normally do, make sure the barrel is dry, and then cut a small square of the wipeaway clothe and swab...

    TC Renegade barrel available?

Yup I just paid $140 total for a PA Hunter rebore from 50 cal to 54 cal round bottom semi radious. $125 for rebore and $15 for return shipping. Very happy with the job he did.

    Lyman Great Plains re-bore question

I just used Bob Hoyt to rebore a TC PA Hunter to .54 cal. He did an excellent job and I can't wait to shoot it. Here's the contact info I used: Bob Hoyt 2379 Mt Hope Rd Fairfield, Pennsylvania, 17320 717-642-6696

    Dixon's Gun Fair

Dave - I'll be poking around all day on Saturday. Will make a note to stop by and chat with you. Really appreciated reading your comments in the Chambers Lock thread by the way. Read them many times as a matter of fact...always trying to learn.

    Dixon's Gun Fair

Thanks for the suggestion. Never occurred to me to have a gunmaker assemble someone else's kit (like a Chamber's kit) as opposed to building a custom gun from scratch. Very good idea

    Dixon's Gun Fair

Ok thanks for the info. Darn it. To bad Tip won't be at Dixon in a couple of weeks. I was looking forward to meeting him and looking at his rifles. Several folks that I shoot with at a black powder clud in Alabama NY have Tip rifles of varying ages and have allowed me to handle and shoot...

    Dixon's Gun Fair

I'll be there as well for the first time...coming from Buffalo, NY. Looking for Tip as well, but I see that he is NOT on the Dixon confirmed list of vendors unfortunately.

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Rodwa - I used OE this past weekend and to be honest, I found it mabye just a wee bit cleaner than regular Goex. However, the fouling was definitely blacker and more workable (more moist?) than the Grafs. Although the moist OE fouling may have been attributable to the 10-1-1 Moose Milk I was...

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Mtmanjim - "So, drop the alcohol, use an under size jag for wiping between shots with water spit or anything as long as it is not alcohol or petroleum based because I can almost guarantee you that's whats causing your fouling to harden, and the tight fitting cleaning jag is what is causing the...

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Mac - Yeah, I've read some good things about the Hoppes 9 Black Powder Solvent and Patch lube. Must pick some up next time I order from Midsouth Shooting Supplies and try that as a damp swab solution. Gonna try swabbing with my own Moose Milk recipe next time out...12-1-1. 12 parts distilled...

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Mac - Right, the Grafs can says "Imported by Schuetzen Powder LLC," that's exactly why I bought it...thinking I was paying $14 lb total for the Grafs when the Schuetzen was running around $18. Thought I would save around $100 for the Graf case compared to the Schuetzen. Hey, when you were...

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Mac - "...if the Hildabeast wins and gets her supreme court pick.." :headslap: Yeah, if that turns out to be the case, I'm gonna have bigger problems than Grafs powder causing hard fouling when using a damp alcohol swab. Point noted.

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Necchi - Thanks again for the suggestions. Will try the spit cleaning patch and take a caliper to the jag I've been using for 2 years and compare it to a few new ones I have in storage. Goex residue must be more "foregiving" to the alcohol swab than Grafs I guess. Sheez, been shooting...

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Necchi - Hmmm, I think you might be on to something. I purchased Dutch's System pack and thought I read it closely, but I guess I'll have to dig it out and re-read. Thanks for pointing that out. :v I thought that the "damp patch" thing just referred to just that: only using a damp patch and...

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

Both rifles were shot the same day, same range, same everything....'cept for the powder.

Anyone experience this with Graff's or Schuetzen powder ??

A few years back I bought a couple of pounds of Schuetzen powder and was impressed with its performance. It seemed to produce the same accuracy I was getting with Goex in a couple of my rifles and was just a tad cleaner in my opinion. Good stuff I thought. So when Graf and Sons had a special...

    Renegade to 58 caliber

Hmmm...so that 26" BigBore barrel is as accurate as the 32" GM drop-in. Now that's sayin something. Thanks for the feedback. I trust that a barrel worked on by Mr Hoyt will be at least equal to your BigBore barrel. Now, gotta research what "semi radius rifling" is. Everything I have is...
