    It is probly more taste to the person really. I have a Virginia Fowler that is getting a Paris and Son 48 inch barrel swamped and choked. I like that long sight radius also considering I am older now and shorter sights are a bit much for the old eyes anymore. Peter

    I am working on my Virginia Fowler today and took an old piece of wood to try some stain on it. The stock is maple and I used some maple stain but was not really pleased with it. Any suggestions on what most people use on maple to darken it down. Catfish

    hardening the Frizzen

    I did the oil bath and the quenching with water and that thing fires every time now and throws a shower of sparks. Now the D%^N mainspring broke and I am going to have to mortage my house to get a pedersoli mainspring. P

    I took care of the tension on the frizzen. But it still wont put out the sparks I need. It will fire sometimes on the first try and other times on the third. I am about ready to go back to percussion. This thing is making me nuts. I just dont get a good shower of sparks. Any suggestions!!!!!!

    Putting wood finish on kit, browning...?

    I have used nothing but plane linseed oil on every rifle I have built. My way of doing things is to pour a small amount into your hand and start rubbing it in. You will feel a warmth in your hands and when it gets a little to warm stop. Let it dry over night and do it again in the morning...

    I shoot 3x in anything 50 cal and below and go to 2x above that. I also prime with 3x. Works fine for me. P :thumbsup:
