My latest daydream: A Kibler escopeta ...

Not at all, it functioned out of the box. Loyalist arms works on them before they ship them out. I do plan to resand/reprofile the fore-end to be more sleek, however it's perfectly functional.

    The Spanish Miquelet musket

It is an India built gun, that I obtained from loyalist arms in Canada. As for the sear, it is quite robust and I don't forsee the sear wearing, but if it does, it will be much more easily identified and fixed, than conventional flintlocks. Appreciate the kind response.

My latest daydream: A Kibler escopeta ...

Not an escopeta with a catalan style stock, but I got this Miquelet lock musket from loyalist arms. He said he has a few more, last time we spoke.

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

As someone who does primitive archery and muzzleloading, I've had a lot of thoughts on this, since I've often thought bows would be very practical on the frontier, however their evidence is scant for use by Anglo settlers, aside from Mott's fort with Francis Marion. These are my thoughts and...

What ML movie should be made now?

I think there's a lot of potential for a great movie or TV series based on the story of Thomas Isaac Cox. He was a Pennsylvania born American who moved to Louisiana in the 1760s and served in the Spanish Army in Texas, and was believed to have fought apaches with Bernando Galvez. When the...

    How old are ya?

    25. I cut teeth on cap and ball revolvers around the time I was 16, then graduated to a traditions kentucky kit, and then went all the way to flintlocks and never looked back.

Lighting a pipe with flint and steel

I would imagine in the 18th century/ pre match world, that using a pair of ember tongs and getting a coal out of an already lit fire would have been the most practical and popular method, especially in a tavern environment. However I have not researched it well and cannot speak to what was most...

Making a hunting sword from a machete

Respectfully, the video is about making a 18th hunting sword/hanger/cutlass from a 16 dollar machete, you simply aren't going to get that distal taper. I can and have forged swords, however, that was not the point of the video. The point of the video was to make one from a cheap machete. Also I...

Making a hunting sword from a machete

Not at all, I cut slowly and use water to cool so as to not affect the temper. Two rules of thumb is to not let it be too hot to bare hand touch, or get the steel past a straw color to a plum-blue color from heat.
