    Patch question

On my Kibler .54 Woodsrunner I had to go to .535 roundballs with .018 patches with 80 grains of Swiss 3fg powder to keep the patches from burning.

    Kiblers Woodsrunner

I have not had any trouble with the Colonial lock on my Woodsrunner, but I and a few of the guys I shoot with have had trouble with the Kibler locks on our Southern mountain guns. I gave mine to Brad Emig to work on and he twisted and changed the angle of the hammer so the flint strikes the...

    Do you gut your deer?

Ever since I started hunting back in the mid 1960's we always gutted our deer immediately in the field and skinned them out as soon as possible when we got back home or to camp that same day. In archery season I have taken a few deer to a processor because of time constraints of going to work...

    2024 Turkey Hunting

Pennsylvania changed their gun regulations for fall turkey hunting and only allow shotguns and smoothbore muzzleloaders along with archery equipment. No more rifles or rifled muzzleloaders.

    Smoothbore shotgun for turkey

I agree with Eric Krewson that a jug choked smoothbore flintlock is the way to go for turkey. You do not have to screw any choke out to load and then back in after loading. Standard loading is all you have to do and cleaning is easy. I am using a .62 cal. trade gun and easily kill turkey out...

I Told a Big, Fat Lie a Couple of Weeks Ago

For the past 2 years I have not shot a deer until today. I shot a nice mature doe with my T/C Hawkin percussion here in Pa. It did feel good to me. Last year my 8 year old grandson shot a buck and a doe and this year at age 9 he did it again. I was with him mentoring on all 4 occasions...

    Kibler Colonial double-set trigger

You can install a Davis #4 in the Kibler Colonial. A friend of mine installed one in my Colonial and I like it a lot better. My friend thinks he can install one in my Woodsrunner. He took measurements and thinks he can install one in the Woodsrunner. I hope so because I like set triggers...

Overshot card versus over powder card

I had my barrel jug choked by Lowell Tennyson. He did a great job of giving my Colrain barrel a full choke for my turkey hunting. He asked me what degree of jug choke I wanted and I told him my intended use for the gun and he sure tightened my patterns up. He does not recommend using round...

Longer Barrels On Small Caliber ML

I have the Kibler SMR, old style with 46" barrels, in both .36 and .45 cal. I shoot both extensively and can only say the problem I am having is that my 71 year old eyes are starting to have a hard time focusing on both sights and the target at the same time. My shorter barreled guns are...

Dang it, brand new to this....

Welcome from Western Pennsylvania. I, like you, got bit by this blackpowder bug when I was almost 60 years old. Now I sure wished I took it up earlier. I could see a lot better then. After shooting BP now for over 10 years, flintlocks are the only guns I hunt with for all game. I still...

    Little Help Needed Please

I agree with the others that said to go with 3f powder and .018 patches, and even possibly going to a .495 round ball with the .018 patch. In my .54 cal. Woodsrunner I had to go to a .535 round ball and a .018 patch because I was getting patch results like yours with a .530 round ball and .015...

    Kibler vs. TVM.

I can not say anything about a TVM gun since I never owned or shot one. I can say something about Kibler guns. I own 4, one Colonial, 2 SMR's, and a Woodsrunner. Jim stands behind his products. My Woodsrunner was one of the first 5 out of his shop, in fact it had the number 1 hand engraved...

    Kibler colonial

If you don't have a smooth barrel flintlock, send the barrel to Bobby Hoyt and have it made into a .58 smooth bore. That way you can still keep that beautiful gun and have the option of shooting round ball or shot out of it. I sent my Kibler Colonial .54 barrel to Bobby after building my .54...
