Mini flintlock volley in the desert

My buddy’s wife. It worked too (nailed a gallon jug at 10 paces).

Mini flintlock volley in the desert

It’s been ages since I’ve been on here (life happens) but finally got the flints out last weekend. Behold the soul-cleansing power of the muzzleblast. Lyman GPR, Sea Service pistol.

Bore polishing to help with fouling: it worked!

I did what he did in the video and used it dry. Worked fine for me.

    Well, I finally dry-balled

Y'all said it would happen eventually. Death, taxes, and dry-balling. I was testing out new ball patch combos at the range today, got distracted by which size patch I was using, and completely forgot powder. As soon as I rammed the short starter, I knew...oh "drat." Thanks to this forum, I...

    California black powder revolver laws

I don't run premium, but it is really bad right now. Last time I filled up, I think it was $4.45. There are places on the Westside that are routinely near $5 for regular.

FOR SALE Well, I got scammed

I agree, tell your bank. They might be able to reverse the charge. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/what-do-if-you-were-scammed

    Shipping powder to California

I live in CA but have never ordered powder from Midway. My last order was from Powder Inc...no problems, but they do make you submit paperwork/ID etc...

    Firelock pistol historic military use

Duelist1954 has a good YouTube video on making paper cartridges, although nothing specific to Sea Service pistols. I have a Sea Service as well, and recently made a few cartridges that I haven't tried out yet.

    Breaking in a new barrel?

I had to polish my GPR with about 100 strokes of a Scotch-Brite pad, fixed my fouling issues and cut patches.

    Lyman Great Plains Questions

It does have a patent breech (at least the newer ones do), but it's not that deep. Mine is probably half an inch.

    New guy question...loading method.

Here's another of Mike's videos, in which he makes paper cartridges for his 1766 Charleville.

    Knives found in father-in-law's cabin

Ok, here are a few photos of the cabin I mentioned and the surrounding property. After about a 2 1/2 hour drive on rocky dirt roads, assuming you don't get lost, you arrive at a gate on a ridge. About a mile more down into a wide canyon is the cabin. Just enough space inside for a small desk...

    Knives found in father-in-law's cabin

Yes indeed. I didn't get to know my father-in-law very well, but I know he was a lover of the wilderness. Perhaps I'll share some photos of the "cabin" in another thread.

    Knives found in father-in-law's cabin

It is leather. I've gathered from a knife forum that this is a 1946-48 ish Western "Baby Shark."

    Knives found in father-in-law's cabin

The only identifying marks are on the longer knife. The stamp on the ricasso reads WESTERN, BOULDER COLO., PAT'D MADE IN USA.

    Bobby Hoyt

It wasn't a re-bore with rifling, but I recently had a 12 in. smoothbore pistol lined from .56 down to .54 and he charged me $50. I am on the west coast as well, but I was able to catch him at 10 ET on the phone.

    Knives found in father-in-law's cabin

Sadly, my father-in-law passed on 2 years ago, and a few months ago we finally made it out to his secluded cabin in the mountains (it took us awhile because the only way out there is a 4x4 or horses and hours on a rocky dirt road). I found these two knives, and my mother-in-law said I could...

What paper do i use for cartridges?

What type of flintlock are you considering? I recently learned to make cartridges from this video: Mike found that, with the caliber balls he was using, heavy paper meant that the cartridge wouldn't load, so he went to a smaller caliber ball and newspaper. There are a few other threads in...

    Lets see some flintlock pistols!

Gorgeous. I love the color and grain of that wood.

Bored...might as well make paper cartridges

Going to try them out in a Sea Service pistol repro. .54 cal smoothie.
