Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

Yes! I noticed that, too. I had a feeling that could be an issue.

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

I noticed them! I wasn't sure if they just sold guns or if they had supplies, too. I almost called and it sounds like I should have!

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

I might have to track you down for advice (and instruction)! I'm between Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

Thanks everyone! I got super slammed with farm work, but I've read everything and I appreciate it all! I am hopeful that we can get the gun to someone that knows what they're doing soon! I think it's a really charming thing, even if it is comically large! Of course, I'd have preferred if some of...

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

I’ve actually been trying to find somewhere nearby, but I’ve been struggling a bit. I have to be Googling the wrong keywords or something, because how would rural NC not have a group of muzzleloader enthusiasts? I may have found another store that sells supplies so I may ask them if they know!

Bought a decoration, turns out it’s a real percussion rifle! Tips?

I was shopping for decorations for my husband’s garage or office and had to choose between this cute gun thing or a vintage sign. He has firearms and shoots as a hobby (although not as much recently because of our busy schedules) so I thought he’d like the gun. Long story short, it looks like a...

Thanks everyone! I came here just to double check what sort of gun this had and if it was useable and these things are way more interesting than I realized! I’m normally not a fan of guns (I don’t like loud noises) but I’m actually excited. Maybe if we like this one we can learn more and buy...

Okay that’s good! Worst case the rust will make it look at home with the old farm equipment I’ve dug up and cleaned. Last question, I think - I saw online that there was a problem with CVA where people got hurt and the company was sued. Is there a way to figure out if this is one of those or do...

I was under the impression that we would have to remove it if we cleaned it? You’re right that I intended for it to be another addition to the wall since it was the same price as a neat old metal oil sign. But, considering my husband shoots, if it is useable for that I’d rather go that route. If...

Good thing there are a ton of gun stores around here! Are all percussion caps the same or are there different sizes? Actually, is there a really good, reliable book or website to start from square one? I feel terrible asking so many questions.

Are the pins really tiny? There are a few little things in the middle of the stars and one by itself. How do you get those out?

Oh that would be fun if it could actually shoot! I couldn’t reach the bottom or end with the ramrod - should I get a longer stick to see if there’s anything inside?

I don’t see any other marks, but I heard sometimes there are marks on the underside of things? I tried to see if I could take it apart, but I am baffled how one can do that. I watched a video on YouTube, but there was a pin they pushed out and I can’t find one.

Here’s a few that I took. I’ll poke around for another spot to post them so others can see it easier! The only mark I can find is the CS on top, but I don’t see that it means anything. Maybe the person who built it was proud and added initials. I think I saw a kit that had the same little star...

Hi everyone! I joined this group mostly because of my husband. He’s always been into guns and target shooting and a few years ago we moved to a more rural area and the previous owners had made their own rifle range! He has a collection of “normal” modern guns that he uses occasionally, usually...
