    Build an underhammer rifle

I love side slapper and underhammer rifles, but that all metal (?) goofy one - not as much.

Uberti 47 Walker Spare Cylinder Longer Than Original

I don't think you should take any metal off that cylinder at all, or send it back either. After shooting with it a few times the gap will probably open up to .003 - .004 anyway. If it fits and turns good now, don't mess with it.

Who made this 1858 Remington revolver

I have a Navy Arms Rem. that was made in the early 1960's. It says A. Uberti on the bottom flat of the barrel, hidden by the loading lever.

Having an issue with my 1850s percussion pistol.

I bought 35 cal. balls for my Numrich underhammer pistol from Track of the Wolf.

    Newcomer more questions

If the cap pops the problem is somewhere in the path leading to the powder. If the cap don't pop, the hammer isn't hitting it right. A more detailed description of the problem would help.

My first cap and ball revolver

Now that caps and powder have become available again, messing around with these guns is a lot more fun. We should be glad there are the Italian reproductions being made - they really are a good quality gun for the money.

    Correcting Uberti Short Arbors?

I had my doubts about that being Colt's design or intention, but you found very definite proof. Thanks!

1858 Remington History and cool stories.

I would love to go there someday. I was actually in Cody when I was 15 years old but wouldn't have known about the museum. I have a picture of me and my sister standing on a big statue of Buffalo Bill. We were on our way to the Seattle World's Fair in 1962 from here in Wisconsin. 8 of us in a...

1858 Remington History and cool stories.

Bill Cody was born in 1846 so if that picture is from 1871, he was 25 years old. Sort of a goofy picture, I wonder where and why it was taken.

    Ruger Old Army

In the epistemology dept. (wow - now that's a new word for me!) - what evidence is there that is more expensive to produce the top strap type over the open type? The Uberti and Pietta reproductions cost approximately the same. Taylors shows some cartridge models (mostly out of stock) also for...

1858 Remington History and cool stories.

In the early photograph systems, they didn't have the negatives which then got printed into pictures like we had with film cameras. The picture they ended up with was the negative - in other words things looked backwards. Like a civil war picture of a soldier with a belt buckle that should say...

Cold fusion is a great comparison! It don't work and never did.

    1858 loading lever catch

As long as you use something better than plain old soft solder it should be ok. Make sure every bit of oil or dirt is cleaned off.

    1858 loading lever catch

I had the catch on my 1960's Navy Arms Remington fall off a long time ago. I hard soldered it back on but don't remember what I used. The flux ran down and around the barrel and messed up the bluing bad. Tried touching it up with cold blue, and after all these years it still looks like crap...

    I never met an underhammer...

I wonder what kind of mainspring it has. It needs a trigger guard and a different grip. Just getting rid of that pointed bottom and square it off would help.
