Need Id Advice and more, TC Penn Hunter

Thanks Eric. The small screw just makes a hole in the breech plug. Maybe some kind of a index hole for barrel making or plug alignment. I did a prussian blue test on the bottom of barrel where the channel is. Not one trace of bluing touched channel except where end of stock is. Tang...

Need Id Advice and more, TC Penn Hunter

Got this TC Penn Hunter in an estate sale. Here is what I know about it. The fellow who owned it shot it in "competition". He converted, i.e., replaced the original single trigger to a double set trigger. Don't want to be too critical here but the workmanship after conversion was not what...

    TC Pennsylvania Hunter Issue

What I don't like is the new trigger guard that was put on after the double trigger install. You can see the 2 mounting holes where the guard goes. Would like to find a smaller one that would sit close in to the trigger plate. Or knew somebody that could build me one. Way beyond my talent...

    TC Pennsylvania Hunter Issue

Here are a few more pics of the TC Penn Hunter. The original lock was replaced with a L&R lock by the orig. owner. Nice. Behind the lock you can see the stainless bolt that was installed and really held nothing. No, not my idea. Also you can see the double trigger used the inlet for...

    TC Pennsylvania Hunter Issue

The new double trigger has a wood screw holding its plate on the stock. Because the new double trigger plate doesn't have a hole for the tang bolt to screw into what should I do with the tang bolt attach method.

    TC Pennsylvania Hunter Issue

I picked up a TC Pennsylvania Hunter, 50 cal, at a estate clearance. The fellow who is no longer with us was a target shooter evidently. As you may know this model of flintlock TC came with a single trigger. Well he replaced the single trigger with a double set trigger. Here is my issue...

Help with ID on this Target rifle

I acquired this "target" rifle at a estate sale. Original owner is no longer with us. I would like to know a little more about it. I'm not a "target" shooter really. We all shoot paper don't we. Not competition anyway. Here is what I can tell you. It is a .50 cal, 36" x 1.25" x 60 or 66...

    Underlug hole elongation...

Not being sarcastic here at all. I just need to understand this better. How can the stock move when pinned thru a elongated hole when the tang is bolted/screwed into the stock? The breech plug/tang is threaded into the barrel. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

    DIY Ram Rod retainer

Here is my solution to the Traditions Kentucky rifle ramrod retainer spring that was sent with the kit. The original spring is meant to be installed on the forward lock bolt that holds the lock in place. I would call this method a very poor designed idea or lazy thought or a after thought...

How tight to patch a ball

If you get a chance to purchase or a chance to read this short book I think it might explain some thoughts on patch compression and lube. I purchased the book on Ebay from the authors. I has helped me with getting my flinter to work with me better. I guess you could call it working up a...

    Brass Barrel Rod and Test

So back to my original question, should not the patch imprint be seen on the ball be continuous around the ball. By that I mean the imprint should be seen on the groove and rifling on the ball? I understand that all patch thickness can give diff results on accuracy. But I would think that...

    Brass Barrel Rod and Test

Could I guess. But the rod is .437 inch, 12" long and weighs 10 ozs. And used on a .45 cal. It take the ball out in about 3 tips up and down the barrel and ball pops out. It would be a mess if used on a smaller caliber for sure. Nobody would do that would they. 😂

    Brass Barrel Rod and Test

Not real sure how I should have titled this post but I'm sure it will get some replies. Anyway, was reading a post sometime back about sliding a brass rod down the barrel and then patching up a ball and starting it in the barrel a ways and then tipping the barrel down and letting the weight of...
