    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Well oddly enough, I put the same spring and pushrod setup in all the revolvers that get that service (97% of what comes in) except for Remies, they have a different deal. It works across the board and all revolvers have the same bolt tension . . . about 4 lbs . . . I'll stick with my...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Well, the hundred or so ROA's that I've set up that way DON'T have the issue so I've got to believe the engineers apparently knew the product better than you. Sorry you can't accept that Colt didn't set up their revolvers the way you do. Mike

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

What M DeLand refuses to understand is that "his" way of thinking isn't necessarily THE way it all works. If he was right, my upgrade for the ROA wouldn't work . . . but it does, even with the 4 lb bolt spring . . . no need for a truck spring on the bolt to slow down the cyl. ( Just...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Mainly because all you've seen are "reproductions" or 150+ year old originals that have been handled extensively. The 3 screw Ruger (which includes the ROA) has a Colt type action though powered by coil springs. Correctly timed and handled, it should have a "clean" cylinder but mishandling...

    58 Remington and Nipple fouling

#10 of what brand? They're not all the same!! ( here's everyones monthly reminder that cap size doesn't cross from manufacturer to manufacturer)

Cleaning / Shining up Brass Framed Revolvers?

Just a heads-up . . . the ratchet doesn't contact the cutout for it, the "recoil ring" is the limiter for the cyl movement to the rear. It's the web between the nipple openings that dig into the recoil ring and causes the slop. Mike

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

If the bolt needs to unlock the cylinder earlier than it does, the hammer plunger (replaces the cam in Colt type actions) can be extended which means it will contact the bolt "leg" sooner thus unlocking the cyl sooner. Remove the plunger by removing the cross pin. Then you can file the same...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Drag marks on Ruger Old Army cylinders are mostly because of a weak hand spring design. When folks run them fast but don't quite make it to full cock (because their thumb slips off), the cylinder is still moving "at speed" because the hand spring is too weak to slow the cyl down. This is...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Yessir, he definitely did!!! I think all of mine need that trigger!! The setback of the sides of the hammers to keep them "clean" and scratch free is an excellent touch as well!! I'd like to eventually have hammers and triggers made for Uberti and Pietta revolvers as well !! Mike

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Here's the "thing" ! 😎 Super Blackhawk and Bisely hammers. Here's a Bisely hammer and Bisely trigger- Here's the Super Blackhawk hammer- They are basically "drop in" replacements. The only adjustment I've had to do is "dress" a pawl (hand) a little. They're perfect!! Mike

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

No, I stay rather covered up but just thought some Ruger enthusiasts may share some of their favorite "tricks" or upgrades. I don't mind sharing my "upgrades" if there's any interest. Have to agree with you on them being pretty good right out of the box but think a SCREW to keep the "loading...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Funny, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it would be about "mods" . . . . I understand that changing grips may be an upgrade but so far, that's ALL it's been about!! As with all other revolvers there is plenty of room for mods . . . a bolt block, action stop, pawl spring...

Is chain fire more likely from the front end with ball or conical bullet ?

Conicals typically have 2 or more bearing surfaces that are oversized. With minimum support the surfaces "move" (swage) rather than shear material as happens with a ball. So, you have more "seals" to get through (with more distance top to bottom) than does a ball with a very minimal equatorial...

Civil War era Remington questions from a first time owner

You'll probably have a "failure to fire" if your aiming low . . . Mike

Kaido's 240gr Conical is a Keeper for sure

Probably as well as lowering "maximum" charges if there's bad chamber/ bbl misalignment. I've always figured the smaller than bore chambers were an Italian "built in" lawyer safety as well. Mike

Originals chambers were not tapered. Mike

Kaido's 240gr Conical is a Keeper for sure

The Hornady +p's I shoot are 220gr JHP running 1000fps out of a 5" barrel. Don't know what they're doing out of my 8" bbl's with tight .002" endshake. ( just referencing 45acp +p's) Mike

Is chain fire more likely from the front end with ball or conical bullet ?

A ball has a very slight bearing/ sealing surface vs a bullet has considerable bearing/sealing surface. Mike

Is chain fire more likely from the front end with ball or conical bullet ?

I agree. I know a fellow that ran tests firing fully loaded cylinders using one cap at a time . . . never had a chain fire. I never had one either when I shot bp. Always used Ox Yoke dry lube wads. Mike

    No Sights?

I think we understand pretty well at this point. For some reason you think every shooting sport is "training" for life situations . . . but it's not. It's a regulated shooting sport with it's own governing board with established rules and regulations. It is not a self defense exercise...
