How I spent my Marine Corps Birthday!

For me, "Muzzle Loading" isn't just shooting. Like many of you, I like to educate the public not just about our guns but the history related to them. Yesterday I had the opportunity to be in Philadelphia, PA and share some Marine history with my fellow Marines and the public. There was the...

    Them Indian Haters!

Indian made muskets that is. The two most popular arguments against Indian made muskets are #1 "they are unsafe" and #2 they are not "American made". So..... My question is....WHERE CAN I and my SAR Compatriots and fellow re-enactors get / buy / acquire "AMERICAN MADE" reproduction Brown Bess &...

    For all you "Indian" Haters?

Thanks Brokennock. I know what is involved with building guns. What I don't know is how to post on this forum and who in the states will build muskets. TDY

    Flints

Yeah, that's how it is suppose to work! I tell my students that one or two sparks is NOT sparking. You need / want a shower of sparks into the pan. As to where to get flints..... Use to be you could go to a shoot or camp. That was the best place to get them. Most vendors had cans out and you...

Went back to water - cleaning woes and foes

In my classes I teach shooters to keep it simple. Hot water and a little dish detergent is all that is needed on all parts. Thoroughly dry and oil. Next day disassemble, wipe dry (looking for dirt missed) and re-oil. Don't waste money on fancy solvents that may or may not work. But there...

Home defense black powder shotgunhome defense black powder shotgun

I've see a few questions on here lately about using Black Powder / muzzle loaders for home defense or concealed carry. My initial thought is always "Don't!" I don't know why anyone would consider it. Are you trying to go cheap because you think a BP gun is less expensive than a modern gun...

"I got him down to $1,300. Any input would be welcomed." Pay the man for his time! I have only put a couple of gun kits together. Though it is a "kit" it takes time (and skill to do it right.) I make reproduction clothing, accouterments and leather goods. Everyone wants a museum quality...

Anyone here own exclusively muzzle loading firearms?

I did for almost 20 years after a "friend" stole the few cartridge guns I had. Finally gave in and got a Springfield M1A in 2008 & a .380 for CC. Then ended up with my Dad's 16 ga. shotguns.

    Felt wad idea

I purchased the 1000 pack of wads and cards from a supplier. Way more than I'll ever use as I do not shoot trap / skeet. Just wanted a few so the wife could use my .62 trade gun while I used my .75 cal. Potzdam Musket for squirrels. I have divided up the the bulk and put in packs of 100 to...
