    Montana roll call

Lolo here. Someday I'll be in Stevensville... building is a slow process. Have shot since I was a kid. Place top 2 twice in the MT ML State championship as a junior back in the day on Rogers Pass. Built my own 45 cal halfstock percussion 38 years later....

Welcome from Lolo, MT! I just built my first 45 cal percussion. Been shooting black powder and centerfire since the mid 1980's... but just getting back into muzzleloaders.

    Tang Screw

I ordered and received a proper set of triggers and the project is now complete! Thanks for all the help! Half stock 45 percussion. Patterned off an old original in the backwoods of Idaho. I used ebony for the forend, wood under-rib and am still looking for appropriate lock bolt plate to...

    Tang Screw

So, as it is my first build, I had it all drawn out, but no detail at the trigger/lock connection as I figured that the trigger would not work well. My pattern was from an old original half-stock, and it was not super well drawn, but good enough. My dad built a couple full stock 50-60 years...

    Tang Screw

I just finished the lock inlet. So, the top one is the one I have.... Lots of great info in this post for me! So, I will work on getting one like the one on the bottom of this photo! I have not inlet the triggers yet.

    Hello from Lolo, Montana!

I'm interested. Not that I have a lot of free time, but I do get up that way for work somewhat regular. I have friends there and used to have an office right on Highway 2 in town that I spent a week a month working on projects in the area out of.

    Winter Project 2022

Wow. Lots of the hard work has been done - that looks like a fun kit! I need to try that next time. Building from scratch the first time is tough!

    Hello from Lolo, Montana!

Bingo! Great trivia. Record for THE coldest recorded temp in the Lower 48 some years back... Beautiful in the summer!

    Tang Screw

Not sure on the trigger brand - I have had them for well over 25 years. The springs take up a good portion of the frame holding the triggers. I am waiting for my lock to come UPS from track of the wolf, so after inletting it, maybe life will be more clear? Maybe?

SDSmlf - great pictures and creative problem solving! Perfect idea for the difficulty I am having. Thank You! Regards, Matt

    Tang Screw

Great illustration! That would be ideal, wouldn't it! It will be a miracle if I don't hose this project with my eagerness. It is looking good so far... so there is that! The tang is a bit longer, and I assumed the screw would be at the golden ration from the back... or about a third up it...

    Tang Screw

So, I am on my first full build.... lots of questions, but this is FIRST. Where can a tang screw anchor when using double set triggers? The plate foundation that the triggers are built on has no room to drill and tap anywhere near the right place... too much going on there. Should I just use...

    Hello from Lolo, Montana!

New member. Montana Native with 3 nearly grown kids, and a great wife of 26+ years. Currently working on my first build; a half-stock 45 cal percussion build patterned on an old original that I documented and traced 15 plus years ago deep in the backwoods of Idaho. The stock, triggers and...
