    I got some moisture in my powder once and when I shot I got the weirdest uuuuuuuuuuuuuuop as my ball went down the barrel. it still had enough energy to embed the .490 rb in an old elm stump deep enough to hold it, but I could hear it travel out of the barrel like it was pushed by compressed air.

    I worry for the temper of the barrel, you might try shooting it with a hot load with a string if your temper is gone it could save your face.

    If you are just using a caplocks, pyrodex works great, I have used it for years in my Kentucky with no problems and very few mis/hang fires, however if you shoot flintlocks, pyrodex sucks!!!     I always gut where it falls and skin as soon as I get it to where I can hang it, gutting is easy, unless you are a poor shot
