For anyone considering an Indian manufactured Flintlock

Some years back I was in the market for a French 1728 fusil. The only place you could buy them was from an India importer or from The Rifle Shoppe. I went to an event at Crown Point with money in hand to buy an import, but by the time I arrived there was only one left and it was just not...

    What is this musketty thing?

    I don't think a fusil de chasse would have a round-faced lock.

    Rebuilding a 1728 French Musket

It's up to the builder to make it fit.

    Rebuilding a 1728 French Musket

The bolts should be just snug with very little pressure needed to turn them. I watched Simeon England tighten them with only his thumb nail to make his point. It's the fit that matters.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

    Longrifle sling?

    As was his rifle.

    Wooden Powder Horn

The French used a type of pear-shaped flask which was a wooden core covered in leather. Must have worked well.

    Rebuilding a 1728 French Musket

Maybe you could have bought some Rifle Shoppe barrel bands and they would have worked. Maybe. Another thing I will mention. The barrel. Or at least the one in the Rifle Shoppe gun. It is a Colerain. And at the end of the barrel there is a slight flair. You really don't notice it. But...

    Rebuilding a 1728 French Musket

The problem you face will start with the barrel. If you reduce the size, it won't fit the wood. Then if you reduce the wood, the barrel bands won't fit. The Rifle Shoppe used, or at least did use, Colerain barrels. If you take a Rifle Shoppe bayonet and try to fit it over a Colerain .62 cal...

    Kibler Fowler, Fusil conversion

A lot of things in his book are subject to some debate. It was a product of its time.

    Lifespan of a Rifle?

A friend who was a collector purchased a Fusil de Chasse from someone in the Qualla Boundary area of NC. It was probably made around 1730 and had been converted to percussion. So that means that a gun that was 100 years old was still considered valuable enough for someone to invest in the cost...

    Rifle plug removal, field removal

No reason to have a vent liner, unless there has been some damage to the original vent hole.

    How old is this powder?

When I buy black powder in a plastic can I pour it into a metal can because it fits in my ammo carrier and my spout attachments will work, so the powder may be newer than the can. Or not.

    WANTED Double-handled stoneware “canteen”

I have some flasks made by Michel Nicol that are great. French style. Sadly he is no longer with use, but I think others have continued his work.

    piedmont muzzleloaders?

I guess you mean at our range near Greenville. Only a few right now. We shoot every week on Thursday and I get there late, so maybe 6 or 7 on a weekly basis. Our members have been getting old and some can't get out on a regular basis.

    South Carolina, near Greenville.

    piedmont muzzleloaders?

We are near Greenville. Far enough out so we can have a range (30 mi). There is a club in the Charleston area and a couple of ranges near McClellanville. Twin Ponds near Awendaw and Boggy Head off Alt 17 toward Jamestown. Both are public and both will show up on Google Maps. I shot at both...

    Engraver for a patchbox?

Some people do things differently. Some engravers cut deeply and others cut lightly. Tale a look at their work before selecting one. I prefer those who cut lightly. (Don't do any of that myself but have watched it done.)
