    Pure Soft Lead for Hand Casting

    When plumbers remove old cast iron hub and spigot pipe, the hubs have lead poured into them. I take a hammer and smash the hubs to get at it. It is soft lead that melts well. The oakum is easy to skim off the top when it melts.

    In MN right now, scrap yards are paying about 50 cents a pound for lead. Ingots are selling for $2 a pound.

    Poured about a hundred pounds of ingots from some lead I scored at work.

    Making your own caps

    What is in percussion caps? Fine powder? Or some other blend of chemicals. I was under the impression it was the latter. Maybe I just don't recognize the names as gunpowder.
