    Unfowling a barrel

Yes, autocorrect let me down. I noticed the misspelling as soon as I posted it but I couldn’t edit the title of the thread. Lesson learned to always proof read.

    Unfowling a barrel

Update. So after running patch pullers, bullet pullers, soaking in acetone, WD-40, and hitting it with the air compressor, I finally got the nipple off. I tried to bust out whatever was lodged in the barrel with a pick from the bolster but couldn’t dislodge it. So I added roughly 15 grains of...

    Unfowling a barrel

Hey y’all, This is the first post of what I’m sure will be many. The other day I picked up a very cheap Dixie gun works kit gun from 60-70’s. It’s a single barrel smooth bore that was put together by someone who had no idea what they were doing. However, the price was more than right and I...

    Prepping for squirrel hunting …

Nice shot on the rabbit. I know in Ohio any caliber is fair game for small game, and if you’re lucky where you’re at will be that way too. I’ve certainly barked squirrels with my 50 caliber Kentucky rifle in my younger days before I could afford my 32 caliber or get my hands on my smoothbore...

    Muzzleloader kit price increase

Yes but what about the lack of options and calibers? It’s a bigger trend than just price increases.

    Muzzleloader kit price increase

Exactly. It takes away from the point of buying a kit. Not only was it a fun way to customize your rifle, but it was also a nice way to save a little bit of money. I get it why younger people gravitate towards inlines when traditional rifle prices are so high….

    Muzzleloader kit price increase

I know that everything has gone up in the last year, but it’s more than the price of kits. The selection and options available have decreased significantly. They don’t make any small caliber or smoothbore kits anymore and I think that’s a real shame.

    Muzzleloader kit price increase

Hey y’all, is it just me or has the price of basic traditions and investarm kits increased significantly? When I built my first Kentucky long rifle kit I remember paying just 300 dollars for it at Cabelas. Now you’re hard pressed to find one under 350$. The same can be said for all other kits...

An hour at the range with the new Traditions TN flinter

Great shooting. Personally, I love PRB and am not sure that the recoil and cost of conicals is worth it, especially at the range I’m generally shooting flinters and other long rifles. Any time I can take game, save money, and shoot accurately is a win for me.

    First flintlock deer.

Congrats! Nothing better than a traditional muzzle loader hunt.

    Hunting In Cold Weather?

Same. I leave mine in the truck where it’s safe, cold, and won’t accidentally be forgotten in the morning.

    Roundball Expansion?

I deer hunt with a Kentucky long rifle with 0.490 cal PRB. Most of the time I never recover the ball and always have great blood trails with a larger exit wound then the entrance wound. I have never lost a deer with this set up and have taken 11 as of last year. Shot placement is more important...

Stripping stain from a gun stock

Good evening everyone, I have a smoothbore kit gun from Dixie gun works that I picked up for cheap from a flea market a few years ago. It shoots great but looks AWFUL. Whoever did this kit put it together as fast as they possibly could, and I’d like to redo the stock this winter so it isn’t...

Anyone else excited for squirrel season?

Squirrel season opens tomorrow here in Ohio, and I for one can’t wait to get out in the woods with my small caliber muzzleloaders. Anyone else excited about some small game hunting this fall/winter? If so, what’s your weapon of choice?
