I’ve looked up W. Clark, thats what the name appears to be under the barrel.

From what I can find the first caplock patent was in 1822, with the British dragoons using them in 1833, so 1830-1860 is my ball park search area.

Yea I’m finding info with dates all over the place, I did find a stamp on the barrel that says London, but that jives with the proof marks. Either way its old, cool, and getting fired.

I’ve a British back action 16 gauge that Id like to get shooting and I need some help. What should I be looking for in regards to a powder and shot measure tool?

It looks like it has broken before. From my googling, its a 17 bore, 16 gauge and could be anywhere from 1790-1870’s

Its in good shape from what I can see, the stock has been repaired a few times but the lock and trigger are in excellent working condition. I need to find some percussion caps for it now.

I just picked up this shotgun and I’d like some help nailing down just what it is. The seller said they thought it was in the 1860’s range but that's all. It has Birmingham proof marks and some worn letters under the barrel. The bore measures .652” at the end and .646 a half inch in.

Ive never shot set triggers and this is a cheap starter bp rifle so I’m not too upset about it.

I think that I have it figured out for me. When uncocked I can set the rear trigger, but I don’t see the point. With this trigger set, setting the rear trigger only moves the front trigger bar closer to the lock pin, it doesn’t change the pull weight at all. I can adjust the screws to take...

Working on the triggers but this is a tang question, the tang and barrel should fit together without a gap correct? Here is how mine fits with the plug lip innthe tang groove. They fit at an angle in the stock without a gap but the groove is skipped.

I do not have the instructions, if someone has a pdf of them I’d take it.

I put the triggers in a vice and pressed them to match the curve of the stock, this made some difference but not enough. I will file and fit until something works. The front trigger will work on its own, its just a heavy pull. I'm bidding on a back action 16 gauge so that may take precedence.

Here is what I am working with. The sharpie mark in the window is the upper limit of travel for the front trigger bar when setting the rear trigger. The pencil marks are 1/2 and full cock on the sear pin for the lock. The distance mismatch is huge.
